Only make the playoffs because of the 2nd WC slot added this year.

Fuck them.

Their collapse in the last week has been a little like seeing your Christmas Stocking full of stuff but not being able to get to it yet. Maybe there's a new radio crew in there, and maybe, just maybe at the bottom of the stocking is that Oriole win over the Rangers on Friday that sends them home after losing a 13-game lead that they were so confident of.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

Actually, under the old format nothing would be different.  The Rangers would have to play Baltimore to determine who would win the 1 wild card spot since they have the same record.

Regardless, yes - fuck them.

Hell yea!
I am so ready to hate the Rangers...really really really hate the Rangers. Cubs, Pirates, Reds, Brewers, and the redbirds--they are dead to me, adieu. But the Rangers....

Despite the DH and all it does to fuck up the game, and the steaming pile of late night games on the west coast I'll never see, and the half-century of tradition cast away...yeah it really sucks.
Still, there is consolation in hating the Arlington Rangers.
GO Baltimore! Never had that thought that before. I guess, in a big brotherly way, I have always hated the Rangers. Brave new world indeed.

I disagree with the premise that the Rangers in any way have always been the Astros "big brother".

Er... can't tell if you're kidding or not, but I'm guessing he meant the Astros were the big brother. While technically the older franchise (began as Senators in '61) they didn't move to Texas until 1972, and oh yeah (since this was a topic yesterday), they still have fewer franchise wins than the Astros (3,936 to 3,999).

Oh really?  You know the Rangers will have that many more wins than the Astros next year?  While on paper, they should but you never know what the BBGs have up their sleeves.  Injuries, Arrests, and Stupidity should not be discounted.

True, they'll probably make up 30-40 of it next year, assuming the Astros lose around 55 again (no comments, please) and the Rangers win 85-95. Will they make up the rest in 2014? That's the question. I'm hoping the Astros won't be quite as much of a doormat by then.

I came across a Rangers fan thread on another site.  Since I don't follow them, was sort of taken aback by the anger directed towards Hamilton, Kinsler, Washington, etc--they want them gone.  They're sick of Hamilton's act, regard Kinsler as a has been, and think Washington is the worst manager of all time.

My mistake headhunter.
fuck man, I am not always sure what I meant--mean, mistake is all mine.

To be clear:I have never considered the Rangers family. If I had to imagine the Rangers as family they'd be some meth slut a cousin showed up with at a bachelor party. But not a brother, older or younger. I do have seven younger siblings, many of whom live in DFW and are infected with "The Range", but they have my sympathy, not my hatred.

I think the "Big Brotherly Way" was a reference to 1984, specifically thinking about the line, "we have always been at war with Eastasia." Although the horrors of 1984 could be considered quaint in the age of predator drone assassinations and advanced interrogation techniques I am reminded in a small way of the dread I felt when I first read Orwell's novel because, thanks to Bud and Crane, rivalries going back twenty years in division play and a half-century in the league no longer matter, and like in the novel the past is irrelevant. Now our Astros have always been at war with the Angles, Mariners, Athletics, and most hated of all, the Arlington Rangers. "I have always loved the DH." nope--can't say that, at least not yet.

Don't get them started about Michael Young either.  My preferred scenario: a humiliating finale tomorrow, followed by a bloodletting reaction that sets them back a good ways.

Washington is generally known to be a terrible manager, but I don't watch enough Rangers games to know.

I think there's a 0% chance Hamilton is on that team next year.  My bet is that he ends up in LA.

Dodgers or Angels? The Dodgers have Kemp, Eithier, and Carl Crawford (allegedly). The Angels seem to have a full OF too, plus they say they want to bring Torii Hunter back.

I agree he seems done in Arlington. Detroit?

I could see the Dodgers trading somebody like Ethier to obtain something else they need that's not on the free agent market, and then plugging the hole with Hamilton.

The Angels have a major hard-on for outfielders.   I wouldn't put it past them.  Though I'm more inclined to say SF or Boston as a landing spot for Hamilton.

I could see Crawford becoming the cross-town version of Vernon Wells and becoming one of the most expensive backups in the game.

Really?  That is general knowledge, but the Rangers are just clueless?

I've seen a lot of Rangers games.  Washington gets a lot out of his players, IMO.  How many underperform their career baselines, and how many exceed them?

I suspect he might get pretty confused in a tight NL game. His bullpen management last year was pretty questionable.

Washington wins because he has a mindboggling amount of talent, not because he's a good manager.  Which makes him like 99.9 percent of managers out there.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

The A's put 'em in the position of 'win-or-go-home' with the sweep in the final series of the season, hence I'm fine with them winning for a while as well!

+1.

I think I've found the AL team I'll pull for.

I'm torn between pulling for the A's or the O's. I like both clubs. But i'm loving the fact that the stRangers choked on a big fat turd and are going home with nothing to show for it.

Bet that left a bad taste in Nolan's mouth. HaHaHaHa.

The A's and O's have both won my heart for this postseason. I guess I'm pulling for the Gnats in the NL, though I would also be happy for Gunther if he managed to trip and fall into a WS ring.

What a glorious, schadenfreude-filled ending to a shitty baseball season. FUCK YOU NOLAN, AND FUCK YOU BANDWAGON RANGERS FAN. Yes, you, douchebag in your ridiculous claw/antler shirt. That was one helluva choke job!

The Rangers had sole possession of first place for 161 games straight games, and their season is over after one playoff game. Thank you, BBGs.

I ventured into the stRangeland and scrolled through the comments from their fans. Abhorrent, typical Dallas sports fans. The vitriol they spew for the same players they were lauding quite recently is anathema to my life as an Astros fan. The loud, pointed booing they did last night was telling imo. Theirs is a fanbase undeserving of the team's recent success. The BBGs took notice.

Fuck Dallas.

Yes, the press is calling for a re-tooling of the team. (I don't completely disagree with that, BTW.) The list of players to jettison starts with Young, Kinsler, and even Hamilton, in his walk year, is being given a good-riddance by many. As an Astro fan, I wouldn't be interested in any of these guys myself. Daniels is a bright G.M. I think there will be some significant changes. I would look for them trying to get more speed and better defense in the OF and always more pitching. They seem to be loaded in the MiLs so they have alot to work with.
