I take it that you are in attendance today? The national anthem was a little shaky.

Yes sir.

There were Navy Leapfrog Paratroopers descending on to the field during the anthem. I think they told the vocalist to slow down so the last one carrying the American flag would be on the field when they finished.

It's his modus operandi. But I agree with you, since he also has demonstrated tendencies to go with the hot hand.

He sounded like he was unsure of some of the lyrics and was shaky on a couple of the noes in an admittedly difficult song.

His boss said he doesn't believe in the "hot hand" theory to filing out the lineup card. Therein may lie the difference he has with Mills and why he'll probably replace him at season's end.

I think Mills is gone at the end of the season.  From the NYT article on Brad Mills .

Quote
For one thing, Luhnow said, the notion that a player is hot or cold is largely a myth, and managers should recognize it.

“If you end up changing your strategy based on hot or cold tendencies, more often than not, you’re chasing your tail and you’re actually destroying value rather than sticking to what you know is right based off the data over a longer period of time,” Luhnow said. “It’s easy to say from up here, and it’s easy to prove from up here. But it’s a lot more difficult to implement down there.”
''I just did an interview with someone I like more than you. I used a lot of big words on him. I don't have anything left for you.'' --Brad Ausmus

I feel it isn't even a hot/cold issue.  It's rewarding a young player by giving him/them consistent starts and instilling confidence.  It isn't even a L/R matchup issue with Fransisco in RF and Pearce @ 1B against a RHP.  Really confused why Wallace and F-Mart are on the major league club if aging AAAA players are getting starts over them.

There is nothing really in syncopation with the duties of the manager ("win ballgames") and the organization ("rebuild farm, see who is major league material") at this point. Sometimes, the whole thing just looks like a major league tryout camp and the games are just test environments. I picture scribes filling out evals on players every game using a rating system. Prior to the game, the manager is told by said scribes that they'd like to see "x" player today. Is Mills in compliance or is this just Mills being Mills?

No one really knows for sure, but this isn't really about running a major league team on the field to win games. This organization pushed past that goal a while back.

I'm not shocked that Bud allowed a walk and it came back to haunt him.  I am surprised, however, that it is possible to walk Alfonso Soriano...

So, who here had Norris down as the worst starter on the team coming into the season?

Not I, sir. But I've favored a move to the bully for him unless and until he develops confidence in his changeup. In fact, in a rare moment of honesty, JD on the FTC telecast just said that Bud needs to develop changeup in order to be effective.

Excellent inning with JD unplugged (somewhat) on the FTC telecast. Brenly was only 1-12 against and Moreland was 2-8 with a dinger off of him. He talked about his last professional start against the FTC on a hot day back in 1994 when he lasted only into the second inning and was released the next day.

It was great hearing/seeing him in a slightly less formal mode.

By the way, I've heard JD say a number of times before that he thought Bud needs a change or other soft pitch to really succeed as a starter. Interesting that he mentioned a splitter as an alternative just now.

I think so. Is that incorrect? I have no idea.

I'm not listening or watching the game, but Chuckie is nephew of Robert.

And he's the son of Cardinals longtime scout Chuck Fick, hence the name "Chuckie."

I loved and used the forkball as one of my two key pitches, which to me is the exact same pitch as the "split finger fastball," although there are some who disagree with me. However, I've never bought the distinction, finding no differences. You hold the ball between your same two fingers and release it like a fastball, but it comes in about 5-10 (depending upon how hard you grip the ball) mph slower than the fastball. Mine looked just like a knuckleball but if it broke, only broke down, not unpredictably like a knuckler.

And I've forgotten who is supposed to recap today's shitfest? I just know that it isn't me, that RB has sundays, budgirl has mondays, Reuben has tuesdays and that NeilT has fridays. I guess that if I really want to know (Sphinx?), then I could check the schedule that budgirl so competently and completely created.

I recently moved to a more residential neighborhood in town.  I got a recommendation for a lawn guy, called him up and met him at the house the week before we were moving in.  He agreed to mow the lawn and do a bunch of other one time shit like removing limbs that were hanging over the driveway, pressure washing the back deck, removing a bunch of overgrown weeds that the previous residents let go.  I paid him cash, up front (yeah yeah, I know.  I have more faith in humanity then someone probably should), and he said he would take care of it on Thursday (two weeks ago from tomorrow).

I get home from work that Thursday and the lawn had been mowed but none of the other stuff.  I don't think about it too much figuring he'll be back some time to take care of the rest and probably needs some equipment that's some place else.  Last week goes by and nothing has happened, and we're getting past the point where the lawn needs to be mowed again. I called the guy this Monday and told him I needed him to do the rest of the stuff I already paid him for and come mow the lawn again.  He apologized profusely and said he would be by today.

This morning a team of mowers descends on the house, mowing the front and back of my house, a neighbor's house and two houses across the street.  Once again, none of the pressure washing, limb trimming, weed pulling stuff is done.  I leave for the office and this afternoon get a call saying that the guy I hired showed up to pressure wash, trim limbs and all that but he wants to know who the fuck has been mowing the lawn?  I have no idea who they are.
"Holy shit, Mozart. Get me off this fucking thing."

I'm watching, just saw him strike out the side again. He's got 10 strikeouts and is perfect through eight. He's featuring some nastiness with both his hammer and his changeup. I'm pulling for him.
