I'm still trying to absorb that.  Wow.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Jaw-dropping story.  I can't imagine writing, let alone living through, any of that.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Jaw-dropping story.  I can't imagine writing, let alone living through, any of that.

It brought me to absolute bawling tears, because I know really know what I put my parents through during my difficult times.  God bless my parents; they've never told me what they really went through as I sat there in jail. But I just got a pretty damn good idea. I love my parents and just talked to my mother. I know that my actions speak far more loudly than my words, which were often but hollow lies and excuses, thankfully now I take full responsibility for my choices and actions.

Thank God Almighty that I've been clean since that dark and dismal December 5, 2007, when I got arrested, not even on a drug charge, of which I could have caught many for possession. God bless you, Jim. Admittedly, I know that I get on your nerves from time to time, maybe even a lot, but you, sir, are a person to respect, and I do respect you for your talents as a lawyer, coach and father.

Indeed.  I can't imagine that was easy to put to paper.  Really powerful story of how addiction effects not only the addict but the people who care for them the most.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

That's one of the biggest myths that I had to dispel in getting clean: the old "I'm not hurting anyone but myself" lie, which is total bullshit.

I have a pyramid scheme I would like share...

As an occasional lurker (the series previews are entertaining, even if the Astros are not) I felt compelled to register to comment on Jim's article.  Good gosh, that was so well written!  The All Star article was also mesmerizing.  YOU should write a book, Jim.  I've also had my tangle with teenage/adult kids and their problems, and it is probably the hardest thing I've ever dealt with in my life.  Luckily, like your daughter, my son appears to be on the upswing.  You verbalized beautifully what it's like to deal with someone you love doing things you hate!

OK, now tell me to fuck off!  Hey, where do y'all hide the smilies?!

She does deserve the credit for some very hard work. Congratulations from me. However, you deserve some credit too for doing the right thing for her instead of enabling her and for not giving up on her. You'd be surprised how many families of addicts aren't able to do even one of these things.

Yeah, once you find out what radid is, that whole thing gets a little scarier.
