Wandy pitches around a single and a walk of the Peen as well as Country Joe. 0- Bottom 1

I've been out drinking with him before. Huge ego. But drinks like an umpire, I.e., like someone with a hollow leg.

Greinke and Roenicke run on a bang bang play at 1B. Holbrook has fucking rabbit ears. That was horrible umpiring.

In my mind I had booked at least ten strikeouts for my fantasy team today from Grienke, but as an Astros fan this is a much better development.

Greinke acted like a fucking baby. I've never seen anyone spike a ball like that. What a petulant twit.  But still, hard to believe he got tossed.

I agree spiking the ball, punching the water cooler, breaking a bat over your knee... all childish and stupid.  But, unless he charges to TOWARDS the ump and spikes the ball in his face or some such action, an ejection is WAY over the line, IMO.

I've seen it result in a fine only. I'm trying to remember the name of the player, but it was a 1B.

McTaggart says that Grienke was telling the umpire after he got ejected "I was mad at myself."

Still, when a batter slams down his helmet after a strikeout he usually gets ejected.  Kind of the same thing.

I disagree. The only thing that might have saved Greinke was that the ump didn't see him actually spike the ball. But if you do that shit, you're going out.

What I don't understand is why he was so pissed off. It's not like MIL won't score half a dozen runs today. If gives up one run, so what?

Well, fuck. Castro tattooes one that Gomez runs down to end the inning. I started Castro today. My catcher/pitcher matchups both stunk: Wilin Rosario versus Gio Gonzalez or Castro versus Greinke. Looks like I unwittingly stumbled into the right call.

And once again the fans down in Pinhead Point (as opposed to Dumbass Cove in left) leave a ball alone. I think that the average fan IQ has definitely gone up since the Astros have gotten worse.

Nice throw, Peen.
It was laughably bad.

This ump is starting with a wide zone now.  Maybe it is only when lefties are batting.

Moore clanks another one, a double play ball, and the run scores. Bases loaded with one out to Maldanado, who likely will be pinch hit for with Kottaras, which chases Wandy in favor of FeRod.

JD now 3-for-4. CJ with a horrible AB with runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs. Strikes out on 3 pitches and looks quite bad in the process.

The trifecta. Bogusevic flails at strike 3. The Brewers brought in LHP Parra and he had Castro and Bogey looking silly. Downs, Bixler, Snyder... Mills not feel it worth it to use one of his RH bench bats there?

Big out on Izturis. Two outs to Kottaras, if he bats. Abad on to pitch in a double switch, with Downs coming in for CJ.

What was the point in the double switch?  Presumably, Myers would handle the ninth, not Abad. Maybe Downs is a much better first baseman than CJ, but I doubt it.

Of course, 90% of the time he's saying "To the moon Alice!", which has to be how how Brocail/Mills feel when they go out to the mound.

I like this from Grienke:

Quote
''I didn't think there was anything wrong with it at the time, but after looking back at it, I thought: 'Oh, (man), that definitely didn't look good.' I put him in a bad position and he had to make a decision,'' Greinke said.

At least he realizes his behavior was the catalyst for a bad call.

+1 He could have gone off on the umpire for being a little quick with the hook, although, on further reflection, I think that the umpire made the right call.

I didn't have a problem with the call at the time. For one, he showed the ump up. Second, unlike a batter's tantrum, Grienke's occurred on the field of play, during play.

I recall you saying that at the time. I guess that I was probably unduly influenced by what JD said, who really got on Holbrook, saying that he'd hear about it from MLB and that it was horrible umpiring. I think that was overblown hyperbole from JD in retrospect, but I allowed myself to get caught up in his indignation. I'm glad to see that Greinke will pitch again today and get to deal with Holbrook behind the plate. I bet that it will go off without a hitch and without any controversy. I predict that Greinke will behave himself.

All of this is absolutely true but I still think Holbrook could easily have elected not to see it.

I'm reminded of the time that Tim Tschida tossed Brocail for yelling at himself.
