WTF is Carlos still in the lineup??
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

They couldn't get Wallace up in time? With CJ hurting but not yet on the DL, and with Altuve still smarting, they probably figured (probably correctly) that they needed to keep both Bixler and Moore for today. I fully expect to see Wallace if CJ goes on the DL.

Most likely because the Astros are, despite appearances, trying to win games rather than exacting retribution demanded by internet dumbfucks.

There's that too, but at what point do you look to the future by seeing at the big league level whether a guy on the farm (Wallace) can really handle the job? Maybe we're not there yet. However, for all intents and purposes, the club is probably not going to improve much.

At some point after today, obviously. Maybe the team thinks it has a reasonable chance of sending Carlos to a team that's not on his list. Maybe they know what they think of Wallace and aren't in any rush to promote him. Whatever the case even if the Astros are pissed at Carlos castigating an established veteran in a public manner simply for exercising a right granted to him in his contract is a bad, bad idea if you ever plan to land any decent FAs in the foreseeable future.

I absolutely agree. I don't even favor benching him; actually, to the contrary. And that looks like how at least Millsie is going to handle it. Play him while you have him. However, if the powers that be have decided that he won't be back next year, I think it understandable that they'd want to see once and for all what Wallace is as an every day player. I don't think that a mere september call up will give them enough time to do that.

Lyles strikes out Jones and McGhee, and McGhee took a dandy hook for strike three.  Two outs for Barmes, who flies out to Bogusevic. 1-0 Top 3..

We've past Minnesota.  Just a couple behind Colorado.  2.5 behind the Cubs and San Diego.  They can do it!

Hit a leadoff double.  Castro hits one to the right field track.  JD is picnicking between second and third, and can't tag.  Moore screams a grounder to third which would have scored JD if he had tagged.  That run is looking pretty meager now though.

So the 3rd baseman had to dive or something?

It would have made it past him had the infield been in.

But as has been noted that run would be meaningless with the merry go round the Pirates have going tonight.

I'm not really down with your belief that everyone's just mailing it in each game but I will say that I was profoundly disappointed that Mills had CJ in the lineup the day after his clankfest a few games ago, now more than ever since I know that Moore comports himself like a professional on the field.

Every mail in more infamous than the last.
Dude, OK, we fucking get it. You think the Astros (all 25 of them, apparently) aren't trying, don't care, are mailing it in, every single game. Which is possibly the worst thing you can say about a baseball player. Do you have anything else to say? Every fucking one of your comments is of this ilk (or about how fat Carlos Lee is, or that you think Bogusevic needs to be sent to AAA). Its getting really fucking old.

Is there anyone at OKC that could do better than Cruz?  Because the jury's pretty well in on whether he can get out major league hitters.

Fair enough, but isn't that the nature of Rule V guys: suck it up for a year and hope they develop in the minors after that.

Anyways, to answer your question, I don't think they have anyone at OKC that I can thnk of at least. Maybe Stoffel at CC.

I think that he's been in the minors for a great while already. It seems to me that if he doesn't show anything (and I haven't seen much), why waste a roster spot any longer?

Actually, Leon at CC isn't that great, but his talent level fits with this current group.

They ought to bring back Cedeno IMO.  I'd rather see another lefty that is decent.  Damn the thought that would be too many lefties.

OK, but why take him in the first place if you don't think he can eventually develop?  They think they see something in him or they wouldn't have picked him.

Btw, I'm not a believer in the guy either, but I assume they know their job and see something.

That's my question.  I accept that it's entirely possible that we are so devoid of top-level talent that keeping him may make sense.

I just checked the OKC stats and there is not anyone in the bullpen that has good numbers. There are a couple of guys in CC but they may not want to make that leap.

Cruz looked good early in the year - good fast ball and a nasty slider. When he woke up and realized that he was in the big leagues, he got overwhelmed. He may be OK after a year in AAA. There is no downside to keeping  him around no matter how bad he is. He certainly is no worse than Carpenter or Rodriquez.

I agree. I like his arm, although it seems to me that he needs more seasoning down on the farm. His command is rotten, and hitters have adjusted to him and are laying off of the slider, which he rarely throws for a strike.

You guys act like Carlos actually wants to play baseball.  Benching him is probably exactly what the lazy fucker wants.  All he cares about is his paycheck and ranch.
