Lance Lynn, nursing a 1-0 lead in the fifth, gives up a leadoff triple to Rios, then strikes out the side. Damn.

Someone had to. He certainly hasn't earned it.

The only hit allowed by RA Dickey tonight was an infield single in B1... (There was an error B9 that led to a run as well).  9.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 12 SO...  And I almost sat him this week because he'd be pitching against the Rays in Tampa (and he'd had 4 very good starts in a row so I 'knew' he wouldn't have a 5th...)...

People bitching and moaning about JD Martinez in the GZ. Wow, there's a new one...

I'm not bitching about JD. I merely said that he hasn't earned the cleanup spot, which is true.

I centered my pitching staff around Halladay, Strasburg, and Carpenter.  32 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings later, and Dickey is my ace.

Oh, and Lynn's not bad for me, either.

I passed up Dickey because I DIDN'T THINK THAT THE Mets would win enough games. Silly me.

Hell, I grabbed him as a waiver wire pickup (in a competitive, limited waiver wire pickups league) when someone dropped him after his early April start via ATL...

I'm pretty sure that the only one that's been fooled by Happ's pitching in the last 3 years was Ed Wade. Discuss.

Happ is really looking badly, because the Giants aren't exactly world beaters at the dish.

Per JD: Giants have hit 6 HRs at home all season coming into this series with the Astros.  They've hit 4 HRs in the past 2 games already...

On a brighter note, Drew Locke hit a grand slam for the second night in a row for the Hooks.  Inside the park to give them the lead.  On a less brighter note, he isn't a prospect and can't pitch.

It would have helped had he had the ball in his glove instead of in his bare hand.

Sterling coined that when he was on the Yankees. But I doubt the fans there were dorky enough to show up to the park dressed as milkmen or even cows as the San Fran fans do.

Yeah I'm not opposed to letting him suffer out there for a bit given it 's already this far gone.  It helps from time to time when you don't have shit, you know skip is not coming to get you, but you have to figure out how to get outs still.   Manager has to know his pitcher though, obviously.

Used up a lot of innings from the pen last night, not foreseeing a monster comeback against Cain the way he is pitching tonight, and quite frankly Happ 'earned' an 'extended stay' on the mound tonight.  That's my $0.02 anyway...

Having been where Happ is a few times, just the knowing that no one is coming out to spare you any further misery or embarassment can be cathartic.

I'm not.  Obviously, there are guys who cant handle it, but I'm a believer that it can help a pitcher grow.  Sometimes your stuff is shit, but the pitcher has to still find a way to have some grit and get outs and save the pen.  Not what is ideal for a good vet who has earned a reprieve or a potential star with electric stuff, but happ is neither.  He is a fringe player at this point with decent stuff, but his stuff alone isn't good enough.  if he can't dig deep and learn to pitch, he won't be a long term option, so give him guidance and let him try to battle.

I'm a broken record but in my opinion, Happ's stuff isn't good enough to pitch consistently up in the zone.

Agree completely.  He should only be up if it is way up in a pitcher's count, but he's proving that he's not good enough to be able to execute that level of control on a consistent basis.

Oh well, I guess it's just frustrating because he's a lefty and should not be as far as he is from being a solid back of the rotation guy.  And wade got him as a key piece in a trade for oswalt while still eating a lot of salary.

That's just one of the reasons why Wade has been canned as a GM. Twice. Happ has clearly regressed since he got here, and that's been under two different pitching coaches who have entirely different approaches, so this is on Happ. He would be getting perilously close to being considered as a situational lefty if he did not have a higher BAA against lefties (.292 coming into tonight's game) than against righties (.272 coming into tonight's game, but that'll shoot up considerably after tonight's outing against mostly righties), although his HR allowed is horrible against righties (12). He just isn't going well at all.

Nice of you to drop by. The zone has been pretty big (at least high) all night, but you're right, now that the mercy rule should be in effect, everyone will be in a hurry to get this one over.

I was laughing to myself about this afterwards - arguably the most historically significant game the team has ever played outside the year 2005 and there are like five of us watching and two of them live on the west coast. I hope Crane gets his TV money in advance.

I think Ryan's fifth no-hitter, the Wood 20 K game, 1986 NLCS, and Scott's no-hitter are all more historically significant. On the other hand, I fell asleep in 2nd inning so what do I know.

I was laughing to myself about this afterwards - arguably the most historically significant game the team has ever played outside the year 2005 and there are like five of us watching and two of them live on the west coast. I hope Crane gets his TV money in advance.
I caught the last 3 outs on the mlb network

Not quite sure why from an Astros point of view that this game is historically significant.  The game itself was historically significant, and probably quite high on the Giants' list, but other than getting beat in the worst way possible, it's just another loss for the Astros.  For Astros historical games, it doesn't rate that high. IMHO anyways.

You can't be serious. A perfect game is the rarest thing in the big leagues.

Rarer than breaking Sandy Koufax's record? Rarer than clinching a division win with a no-hitter?  Rarer than the most famous NLCS ever? I don't think so.

I fell asleep.  During a perfect game.

This is the future for us as Astros fans.

You and me both, brother.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy
