Bags does a Winehouse?
« on: May 15, 2012, 11:40:09 pm »
Seems as though Bags went to re-hab but then said no, no, no.

http://blog.chron.com/newswatch/2012/05/first-day-of-hearing-in-brown-case-focuses-on-kids/

The very last sentence:

Quote
She (Rachael Brown) confirmed that she accompanied Bagwell when he recently left a rehabilitation facility where he was being treated for alcohol abuse before he completed the program.

I hope he gets help if he needs it.
He breezed him, one more time!

It sounds like he at least reached out and went to rehab. That's a good start.

Sorry folks, but our beloved Baggy is an idiot.

I think it is less about being an idiot than it is an addiction to alcohol/drugs and whores.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Of course he is. Notice how you've never heard him deny it.

It's certainly cost him a lot of money in his divorce, so he is an idiot. I wonder out loud if the alcoholism was the reason why Bagwell didn't return to the batting coach position. I also note that he hasn't been in the booth like he was last season on saturdays.

That's true.  It is quite a treat when he is in the booth.

I agree. He brings a hitter's perspective into the booth that meshes nicely with JD's pitcher's perspective. Many people don't realize that hitters and pitchers see the game (and often life) quite differently. It's actually pretty funny. For the most part, hitters look down on pitchers for their general inability to be able to hit.

How will it hurt? I see the alcohol part as a non-issue for purposes of the HOF. However, the spectre of steroids or other enhancements, despite the absolute lack of any evidence on that score, probably has hurt him. We know of at least one asshole voter who didn't include him on his ballot for that very reason. We discussed it here, but I'm too lazy to find the thread.

Jose Canseco syndrome.

More Sheen/Downey Jr-ish than Jose.  He needs to get serious professional help, ASAP or he might not be around long.

If voters are looking for a reason to not vote for Bagwell, they will find one.  The whole "since he is unethical in this area of his life, he might have been unethical in another area of his life" angle fits the bill nicely for those morons.

Right.  Because alcoholism is a purely ethical issue.

You don't understand. It's important that we internet yahoos make medical and character evaluations about people we don't know. Otherwise can't make uninformed snap judgements.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Oh HH, you simple and misinformed man... You should do as I do and allow the 'press' to make the snap judgments for you and simply rely on  their explanation of the facts.  After all, they are tasked with the responsibility of journalistic integrity, and ethics, and the like, and if they've dared to print it, it must be true...
