2007 draft - barren
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:25:56 pm »
According to Levine

with Collin Delome announcing he's been released, Astros don't have anyone from the 2007 draft in system?

Is true?  Ouch.

The good news is that we don't have the guy responsible for that draft, either.

Scouting director was Paul Ricciarini, who was reassigned when Wade took over and still seems to be with the organization. FWIW, Dietrich, Eibner, and Bettis (3rd, 4th, and 8th round picks) all went higher in '10 and have some prospect status at least (Bettis was BA's 86th overall entering 2012). So I don't know who best to focus my rage on. Ricciarini? Purpura? Drayton? Bud? All of the above?

Ugh.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I did a review of the 2007 draft for my blog last month.  Now the only player left in any organization is Albert Cartwright who was traded for Sergio Escalona - he is playing for Clearwater in the Fla. State League in the Phillies organization.
Always ready to go to a game.

Yeah ... I posted something earlier but it got lost in the ether.  Only DeLome made it to AAA for the Astros.  Robert Bono (traded to FLA) appeared in exactly one game at AAA and Matt Cusick (traded to NYY) appeared in less than 30 games at AAA.  Apart from those, only Cartwright, Kyle Greenwalt, Jon Fixler, and Brian Wabick even made it to AA.  (Cartwright appeared in 35 games at CC before being traded to PHI and missing all of 2011).

Probably all of the above, but my most of my ire is directed at Drayton.  Goldstein ranked Dietrich 17th in the Rays system, Eibner 18th in the Royals, and Bettis 4th in the Rockies (and 79th overall in MiLB).  Dietrich or Eibner might crack the top 10 in Houston's system.

I always found it incredible that Drayton would spend $100MM on Lee but wouldn't pony up a couple extra million to ensure they got something out of that draft.  I'm disappointed that DeLome was released.  Between being their top pick that signed and a Southland Conference guy to boot, I found myself pulling for him a lot.
