Friday Beer Thread
« on: March 02, 2012, 03:08:58 pm »
I've got three bottles of the new St. Arnold's Endeavor (previously released as Divine Reserve 11) cooling in the fridge, can't wait to crack one open tonight.
Anybody else drinking something good?  Is it 5pm yet?
Don't think twice, it's alright.

This afternoon's plan...  is to search out the new Buffalo Bayou Brewing's 1836 offering.

I think it will be Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout tonight. I can't get enough of it.

Is that a beer or a technique?

Endeavor is amazing.  Had it at the Sugar Land Flying Saucer on Wednesday, and it's every bit as good as the Divine Reserve 11.

I've got a bottle of mezcal and Shiner Wild Hare at home.  That's some Wire watching liquid.
Drinking for two.

I'm sitting under a pecan tree, listening to the wind blow and drinking a Firemans #4.

On a side note, anyone know of a water well driller near Mexia?

Well, that's a little far away.  I'm on the other side of Waco, closer to Dallas probably.  If I can't find anyone closer, I may take you up on that.  I'm just trying to avoid paying someone $1,000 just to get her.

This is the only licensed one I could find in Mexia. You could widen the search and probably find more.

Just opened my first Endeavor.  What a fantastic beer.  I'm not normally one for IPA's that can be overly hoppy, but this has a tremendous balance of flavor.

Have fun at the concert, Ebby.

They didn't have any at my HEB, but they did have Blonde Bombshell.  So I picked up a sixer of that.

They had a boat load of Endeavor at Krogers on 11th & Shepherd, I picked one up last night.  Good stuff.

For Abitia fans, their Strawberry Harvest is out now, they had a ton of it at BB's in the Heights.  My wife loves it, taste too much like a jolly rancher for my likes though.

I shopped at the Fiesta across Dunlavy too, but they sold it without putting up a fight.  The loss of the Fiesta shopping center will also result in the relocation of my barber.  I am the victim here, Chuck.

There's a barber shop around the corner at which I always stop and marvel. They have the barber's pole, of course, and the windows are painted with the name of the place, Barberia de Luis. Below it reads in faded and chipped paint 'Cortes Modernos, Establecida en 1969.'

I'm dying to do in there for a cut one day but I'm terrified I'll come out looking like Gomer Pyle.

My grandfather insisted that both his doctor and his barber spoke Spanish.  So he'd take me to this little barber shop in Ybor City, where there'd be these old Cuban guys sitting around in guayaberas, drinking coffee that looked like motor oil, and talking about the Great DiMaggio.  They would occasionally play dominoes.  The barber in there, I think his name was Roberto, knew two haircuts...the crew cut and the flat top.  I loved the feeling of the afteshave on my neck after he shaved it smooth with the straight razor.

I'm impressed that you could count to 7.  The way I always understood it, there was a sort of triage involved ... one, two, many.

By the way, just polished off two half-litres of "Budvar" (the original Budweisser) with some balkan food for dinner.  Nice.

I picked up a Shiner Family Reunion sixer the other day just for a change.  In it was a bottle of "Old Time Alt", which I'd never seen before.  Damn tasty stuff.

You used to be able to get some altbiers in Houston (Frankenheim and Diebels come to mind), but I've not seen either in years.

It's a great style.  Wish Spoetzl would make it a regular thing.  Definitely worth a try if you come across some.

Diebels is the "Alt" standard, but it does not really travel well.  Fortunately in this case, my travels help reduce the intervening distance somewhat.
