Geaux Tigers!!!! I think that you're going to see a vastly different game this time, in part due to the insane 30+ day delay between games. Both teams will score touchdowns in this game, Biz.

Why is having the #1 and #2 ranked teams playing each other a dumb fucking idea?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

No I won't.  If they win, they will be the BCS champions...same as if LSU wins.  Stanford is not in the running.  I know that makes your dick itch.

There is no NCG.  When you realize this, the swelling will go down.

Tell that to the BCS:

I don't think they'd listen.  But the BCSCG is designed to get the#1 and #2 BCS-ranked teams to play each other.  That's it.  It works to perfection.

My point is that the design and process are both flawed if it can lead to this situation, which is the dumbest possible BCS Championship Game. LSU shouldn't even show up, what do they have left to prove vs. Alabama.

And Bama should have beaten LSU.

The difference is, one of them beat a shitton of top-25 teams, and the other didn't.

Alabama beat the hell out of everyone on their schedule except the clear-cut number one team in the country...and lost to them by 3.  OSU got beat by Iowa freaking State.  I would rather see OSU play LSU, but the two top teams in the country ARE playing tonight.

They are still #1 and #2.  If there was another team out there that was more deserving to play then I might get worked up about it.  As it stands, there is not, and I will not.

This is where you fundementally misunderstand.  It's not about who has something to prove.  Should the Patriots refuse to play the Broncos next week because they already beat them?

Terrible analogy, because this system is the antithesis of a playoff.

No it's not, it's the very definition of a playoff...just with only two teams, not 64.  It's not about who has "something to prove", it's about getting the #1 and #2 ranked teams to play each other.  It does that.  Flawlessly.

For the third straight year one of my alma maters is playing for the BSC championship.  (Got my undergrad at Auburn and my masters at Bama). Hope I get to claim a connection to a 3rd straight BCS champ.

Prety limited view of its purpose, since this year it became more apparent that the whole series of BCS games is designed to get the most butts in seats and/or eyes on the sets, which can sometimes backfire--see Sugar Bowl.  Seems the sausage-making of how the #1 and #2 teams get selected for this game has driven so many berserk.

Frankly, I could give two shits who wins the SEC West (edit>>>) tonight.

Oh, I actually think they are the two best teams, ranking or not, ETA, though I think LSU had the more impressive season.  I just found it odd how so much of what I read and heard was that bama would probably be eliminated if it lost to LSU at home, only to see that notion swept aside rather quickly, compliments of the OSU collapse in Ames a week or so later.  If you watched that game, it was the closest Ames will ever come to replicating a Fayette Nam crowd--I actually think the crowds in Little Rock made more noise, but that's going back to the Broyles days and up until they started sucking under Hatfield.

There are probably 4 QBs in the PAC that would be the best QB in the SEC (and a least 3 in the Big12). If you dont believe me wait for the draft.

These defenses are unquestionably good, but these "offenses" are pathetic.

Agreed, I wonder if this game is solely a result of the SEC reputation, rather than their actual level of play.

Scared in the first half on offense.  Undisciplined the entire game.  Heading for a bad loss.

Linebackers have been all over the line of scrimmage.  The obvious counter is quick vertical strikes to get them on their heels.  Or just more option looks to the sideline and deep drops with your shell-shocked qb.

The LSU offense has done absolutely nothing to try to make the Alabama defense react to them. Almost no motion, no misdirection, no nothing. Throw bubble screens, run half-hearted options, dive up the middle, just no creativity whatsoever.

It's clear Miles didn't trust him.  But the reality is Lee was a huge reason they were unbeaten through the first half of the season.  I think this too shows how completely out-coached they were.

These defenses are unquestionably good, but these "offenses" are pathetic.

These two "pathetic" offenses put up an impressive amount of points this year, when not playing each other.  LSU put 40+ against the teams that buy into your beloved try and outscore you mentality (most notably Arkansas and West Va.).  Those two defenses (oparticularly Alabama) are stocked full of NFL talent, first day of the draft talent.  I understand that most of you hated the matchup, but those two teams have physically dominated everyone they have played this year, and there is no reason to think that they would not do it to any one of the other "6 man" teams that you might put against them.  They were 1 and 2 for a reason, they are better than everyone else....last night proves Alabama fully deserved their rating, and hence, the rematch.  Turn the TV off if you don't like it, that is about the only way the BCS will ever change.

I saw the Arkansas game, but not the West Virginia.  While watching the Arkansas game, I remember thinking how average their skill players on offense were.  They opened the game up with special teams, IIRC, not some potent offense.

Neither of these teams were so good that they would have been a shoo-in in an eight team playoff.  It was a self fulfilling prophecy: once everyone believed the SEC was the best at the beginning of the year, it was difficult to change that perception, and BCS polling is fundamentally perception.  I accept that they might have been the best teams.  Might of been, though it would have been a good year for a real playoff, rather than an annoitment of the SEC.

The SEC had 1 good out of conference win (LSU vs. Oregon) - that's it.

LSU put 40+ against the teams that buy into your beloved try and outscore you mentality (most notably Arkansas and West Va.).

Hey, I like good defenses too, and I don't enjoy seeing basketball scores out there. But those two offenses were about as simple as it gets, and I'd like to see a little sophistication, or at least flexibility, from the two teams playing in the title game. In LSU's case, in particular, it was obvious after the first 15 minutes that they weren't going to be able to run consistently, but they didn't appear to have anything else to fall back on. Consequently, Alabama stacked 8 guys in the box, left two corners out by themselves, put one safety up top, and then beat LSU senseless at the line of scrimmage, and LSU had no answer.

The real irony here is that Miles was named coach of the year before the game. I imagine that Saban is having a good chuckle about that this morning.

Does that mean Clemson is really a borderline top ten team?

I guess Oregon is a borderline top 10 team, then.  They got bitched by a bad LSU team, and beaten soundly by USC.

If the goal was to get eyes on sets, they did a pretty poor job; this was the lowest rated BCS championship game ever.

And Bama should have beaten LSU.

The difference is, one of them beat a shitton of top-25 teams, and the other didn't.
There is a difference between losing to the #1 team in the country and losing to a bottom feeding Big 12-2 team.

There are probably 4 QBs in the PAC that would be the best QB in the SEC (and a least 3 in the Big12). If you dont believe me wait for the draft.

May have exaggerated a bit, but I firmly believe any of Barkley, Luck, Foles, Griffin, Jones, or Weeden would have been the best SEC quarterbacks.

Tannehill would have immediately become the best, given another year of eligibility.

Tannehill and Osweiler were on the bubble, but I'll give Tyler Wilson a little more credit than that.

May have exaggerated a bit, but I firmly believe any of Barkley, Luck, Foles, Griffin, Jones, or Weeden would have been the best SEC quarterbacks.

Remind me again why this matters.
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Maybe not if they had grown up in the SEC.

Doesn't really matter, just fascinating how poor the QB play is in such an otherwise good conference.

EDIT:  Damn you, Ron Franklin, for mouthing off to that sideline reporter--strike that--sideline personality! It's in part your fault that we're stuck with Pussberger, even if the dimwit network suits seem infatuated with the honking goose.

Maybe I never heard Ron Franklin much in his prime, but every time I've heard him in recent years I thought he was bad.  Not Musberger bad, but I never understood the love for Franklin.

It's heading the way of college basketball.  Which is sad.

What, in your opinion, has harmed college basketball?

My interest in college basketball has declined, but with me, it has more to do with the rapid turnover of the UT players and my inability to see many early season games due to the LHN.

1.  One-and-done
2.  The Tournament is fabulous, but is so large that the regular season is completely irrelevant.

Regular season irrelevant in the Pac12 this year for a different reason - might be as low as a one bid league, so better win the conference tournament.

March Madness is 100000x better to me than pretty much anything in college football except the UT/OU game.

Between the realignment, laughably unentertaining postseason, and disgusting off the field scandals, college football seems almost completely broken.  Plus the NFL is such an attractive distraction in the fall.

What's killed college basketball is the nose dive in the quality of play.  They're just really poor at the game now.  Can't shoot, can't pass, can't play defense...all anyone can do is "create".

It's exciting, but the quality isn't anything close to 10 years ago, even.

That Duke-Kentucky classic can't be repeated for the simple reason that there is not a team in the last 5 years that woudln't have been blown off the floor by either of them.

I think that's it for me.  I enjoy the storylines, the fact that every school has a shot, the upsets, the emotion..etc, etc.  But I simply can't stand the game being played on the floor.

No way.  The first weekend is still one of the best weekends in sports.

College basketball is very screwed up in its own way, don't get me wrong.  I'd love to see the NBA implement the same age/draft rules that baseball has mainly for the reason that college basketball would become more entertaining.

The NBA once had those rules.  They were overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

While I agree that the game has changed I'm still a big fan of colege basketball especially the Horns. Season ticket holder and I don't miss a game.  I love what Rick Barnes has done with the progrm even though I would like to see some of the guys stick around longer.

Tonight will be special.  Last time to berate the Aggies.  Actually we don't berate anybody unless you count singing "poor Aggies" berating.

Some other offerings on the explanation:
AAU has been as negatively impactful as one and done.
Dunking's impact on the erosion was slower but should not be overlooked, either.  Of course, THE DUNK is never going away.  They're not going to raise the basket, either.
Shot clock (though I don't miss stalling halves away).
A 3 point line that's too short--having one at all, for that matter.

I think the AAU thing is particularly destructive.  Also hate to see the hat spectacle during the high school football all-star games that are fully egged on by the idiot broadcasters.

Do you like Brad Nessler? I think he's everything Franklin used to be. And a declining Franklin would have been much more tolerable than a declining Mussburger. But Mussburger has star power....left over from all those years doing the NFL pre-game. That doesn't mean he's good...the Kardashians have star-power.

Nessler works for ESPN, although I haven't heard him on a football broadcast in a while.  According to Wiki he does play-by-play for the Thursday night NFL games.

He is (or used to be, at least) also the PBP voice on EA's NCAA Football video games.

He works college FB and BB for ESPN. Works football with Todd Blackledge. If you watch much college ball you've certainly heard him. Probably a compliment to him that you haven't noticed him unlike a squeaky wheel like Musburger.

Geaux Tigers!!!! I think that you're going to see a vastly different game this time, in part due to the insane 30+ day delay between games. Both teams will score touchdowns in this game, Biz.

just got back from a trip to see this.

OOPS!
