Schafer arrested

http://blogs.ajc.com/jeff-schultz-blog/2011/10/04/ex-brave-jordan-schafer-arrested-on-felony-marijuana-charge/

Quote
The Astros’ center fielder and former Braves’ top prospect was arrested early Tuesday in Tampa on a felony marijuana possession charge. The Tampa Tribune reported Schafer was arrested at 12:38 a.m. at the address for The Cheesecake Factory restaurant. He was released from jail just before 2 a.m. on $2,000 cash bond.

I don’t want to speculate on the nature of the charges. But it’s rare to see the word “felony” next to marijuana.

I think being at the Cheesecake Factory after midnight is grounds for a felony.

It probably refers to quantity.  Over an ounce, or something like that. A $2000 cash bond and immediate release indicate it's nothing significant.

My office in Tampa is basically across the street from International Plaza which is where the Cheesecake Factory is.  There is a bunch of stuff in there including a couple of bars and a Capital Grille.

Same, but I tried not to judge and hoped he was just a hillbilly.  The information gleaned by following him on twitter only increased the suspicion.  He is a confirmed moron at this point.

More details from the Chron:

The report said the driver’s and passenger’s side windows were partially down with a “strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle. Schafer was also said in the report to have a joint in his hand. The police conducted a traffic stop for the expired plate and found a clear plastic bag with a leafy substance that tested positive as marijuana.

The 25.9 grams that the police report claims were in the bag exceed the 20-gram cutoff for felony charges rather than misdemeanor. Schafer also, according to the report, had three marijuana peanut butter cups in the car and claimed ownership of all the drugs.

So, just under an ounce plus some peanut butter cups (I did not know those existed).

In Denver now, we actually have more medical marijuana stores than Starbucks. They have signs advertising brownies, candies, ice cream, etc.

Basically, anything that is edible, they can put some weed in there.

So he was in a car that got pulled over.  And was holding a joint?  Nice.  So intelligence isn't his strong suit either.

Well, duh. But I'm assuming that we're talking about Reese's cups here, not home-built. I guess I'm assuming that they preserved their factory appearance, and that's probably a bad assumption.

My mother's been making peanut butter cups since I can remember.  Weedless, as far as I know.

What do you catch with a weedless peanut butter cup, and aren't they pretty heavy to cast?

From Mississippi at that - might as well put a bullseye on his back.  Out of state expired plates, out late, with strong pot smoke trail flying out the window.  No - that doesn't attract attention at all.

Close next year's POTV 1 voting.  We have a winner.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Same, but I tried not to judge and hoped he was just a hillbilly.  The information gleaned by following him on twitter only increased the suspicion.  He is a confirmed moron at this point.

What, hillbillies can't be stoners?

Of course, but I guess it was hoped he stuck to the more traditional corn liquor.

How did we miss this?  Excellent.

It was a combination of the numbing effect of the past season plus bewilderment at the sheer stupidity of the crime in question.

Total thread hi-jack but I have found hillbillies I have known to fall into three disparate groups:

Drunks - Usually okay, fun group to party with
Drunk and Stoned - Mean as rattle snakes
Stoned - Usually okay, fun group to party with

By no means is this meant to be a universal statement, only my personal experience.

I was lucky in that I never associated with any of the meth-heads.  Although, I assume they were more like the drunk AND stoned variety.

My understanding of meth is that it gives you an incredible high at first, but quickly leaves you with no "benefit" and a crushing addiction.  A bit like following the Astros.

He was traded in the summer, of his twenty fifth year,
Goin home to a team he'd never played for.
Left the Braves behind him, you might say he was born again.
You might say Bourn was making a whole lot more.

When he first came to Houston his health was far away,
On the DL and hangin by a song.
But the Stros were already out of it he really doesn't care
He was healing fast and it wouldn't last for long.

Now Schafer's gone drivin while he's high,
It's a felony, that was all too easy to spy.
The lights from the police cruiser are harsh, and there's no alibi;
Schafer's gettin high...

So who's the dumber stoner-jock:

Guy who rolls around the Cheesecake Factory puffing a blunt with the windows down next to an unmarked cop car while in possession of a felony amount of weed, or

Guy who's pissing in public in downtown Austin in view of police car, runs from cops, drops his weed stash which is conveniently packaged inside his own ATM receipt with his name, etc... on it?
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

1. AGAIN?!

2. Maybe, if we're really lucky, this time it will be for something like selling nuclear secrets to Al Qaeda, and he'll just disappear...
