Astros score one on a dp.  Rentzler couldn't find the plate, so obviously corporan swung at ball 3 on a 2-0 count

That 2-2 pitch was a good one. Surprised Fontenot (sp?) was able to lay off of it (got so excited by the THE Altuve play that I got a tad sidetracked on commenting on it earlier).

Hell of a play from Corporan as well. Excellent job of blocking the plate.

Really like how JD backed up a couple of steps so he could come in on the ball and get something behind his throw!

The call was that the throw took him off the bag. Didn't. Carlos got him. In fairness, wasn't an easy call to make for the 1BU though...

I had to run to the grocery store, and on my way home I was treated to Milo's call of this play. His call wasn't much more illuminating than OSF's. Apparently somebody was on with a leadoff single, and then FeRod threw the wildest of wild pitches, but it somehow culminated in an out. Anybody got any details?

errant pickoff throw.
kicked back and altuve picked it up threw it to 2nd for barmes to tag rowand out.

discussion of whether or not lee interfered with rowand after the throw.  but 1bu said there was none before any arguing could commence.

In Wallace & C Johnson's last 21 games as Astros they combined for 5 doubles, 0 homers 8 RBI.  In 21 games JD Martinez, 7 doubles, 5 HR, 21 RBI.  JD has one less homer for his career than Wallace does.

That being said, OKC is playing at a .667 clip since CJ and Wallace showed up.  They were playing about .300 ball prior to the arrival of Wallace, CJ

kicked back and altuve picked it up threw it to 2nd for barmes to tag rowand out.

discussion of whether or not lee interfered with rowand after the throw.  but 1bu said there was none before any arguing could commence.

Well, that makes more sense. Milo was just making choking sounds and blabbering about amazing things. The DoRay didn't help him out any, either.

And the Oscar goes to... Carlos Corporan. Houston Astros for his performance in "HBP, B9, 08/21/11 vs. SF Giants"!

Uh oh, they are going to be asking THE Altuve to try to put down a bunt here...

not sure i like altuve being asked to bunt with the winning run on 2nd. he's your best singles hitter and a single wins the game. even if he hits into a double play you still have another opportunity to win it

Great sacrifice by THE Altuve there. Really thought he had beat it. Actually, I still think he beat it...

I think they got him, but it was only by an inch or two. I think the ball was in the first baseman's glove just before Altuve's heel came down on the bag.

Martinez wanted no part of bases loaded in the 9th.

hate to be a broken record, but i hate taking the bat out of altuve's hands. bunt puts a lot of burden on martinez who clearly was overmatched in that situation.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't bunt.  There's no more pressure to hit a ground ball or fly ball with a runner on 3b than there is to get a hit with the runner on 2b.

Bunt was the right call.

Of course it was. Martinez puckered up. It happens.

The last replay they showed made it appear you are correct. Very close play though!

i know it's traditionally the right call, but with a young team and your best average hitter up at the plate, wouldn't it be better to give yourself three chances to win it than trusting a just-up-from-the-minors rookie to come through with clutch situational hitting against a veteran reliever?

Should have had Altuve hit an inside-the-parker.

He'd have to hit a two run homer to get it even first.

I was obviously wanting him to get the chance to tie it. I didn't get what I wanted. At least Fredia doesn't have to drive some crazy.
