Jeepers, what is the average age of todays lineup?
« on: August 14, 2011, 04:25:22 pm »
Shuck, CF
Altuve, 2B
Martinez, LF
Lee, Ca, 1B
Bogusevic, RF
Paredes, 3B
Sanchez, Ag, SS
Corporan, C
Lyles, P

This sure is exciting although Lee wrecks the curve.  Would be even moreso if they can bang out a win or two.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

If the team's goal is to field the youngest lineup possible then its future is fucking stellar.

Well old lineups weren't working. This team has direction for the first time in a good while. The win now crowd is rough.

Going back in the way back machine; BR's blog pointed me to this line up for the Colt .45s from Sept 29, 1963.  Attendance 3899.

SS Glenn "Sparky" Vaughan (Arky's nephew) 19
2B Joe Morgan 20 (had turned twenty on the 19th)
LF Jim Wynn 21
1B Rusty Staub 19
3B Bob Aspromonte 25
CF Ivan Murrell 20
RF John Paciorek 18
C  John Bateman 23
P  Chris Zachary 19.

What an average age of 20.44, they beat the Mets 13-4.  The Mets record after that game was 51-111, the 45's was 66-96. Last game of the season.

Others who appeared in game

PH Pete Runnels (35)
P Turk Farrell (29)
P  Jim Dickson (25)
PH- C Dave Adlesh (20)
P Jim Umbricht (33)
PH Al "Spanky" Spangler (30)
SS Bob Lillis (33)
Always ready to go to a game.

Four teenagers in one lineup? You'd be hard pressed to do that anywhere in the minors outside of the rookie league. You could do it in Lexington I guess. But damn, that's crazy.

BTW Ed Kranepool started at 1b for the Mets at age 18 on that day.  So 5 played in the game.

Also Lexington's line up from last night:

DeShields (19 + 1 day)
Austin (21 + 10 days)
Santana (19 + 15 days)
Nash (20)
Burnett (22)
Pena (19)
Orloff (24)
Rodriguez (21 +12 days)
Sosa (20)
Bushue (20)

That's 10 with the DH average age is 20.8.  DH was Nash so he actually brings the average down (edited to correct).  You take him out and it's 20.55 still older than the 63 Colt 45's roster on the final day of the season.

You mean Burnett brings the average up? Nash is just 20, right?

Yes I meant down.  That is what happens when you post while jet lagged.
