Is anyone else reenergized to watch this team? It's far from a pennant race, but I can't wait for the game to start every night. Watching all the youngsters is quite refreshing and plenty entertaining.

It was good to see all the smiles after they won last night. Watching them on the field after the game, they looked like a college team with all those young faces. They gave Lyles the cream face during the interview, and Keven E said he had never seen that from an Astros team, at least in a long while. Hopefully, they will relax, have fun, and it will show up in more wins. So, to answer your question, yes, my energy reflects their energy, and they certainly seemed more energized.

Hard to believe a team without Pence could be more energized than a team with, but this team is definitely more charged. Of course winning helps. I think Pence played the role of energized young guy better than veteran leader. Nothing more telling than this when Wade said they wouldn't trade Barmes because of his leadership role

I went to the game last night, it is fun watching a team whose ceiling is unknown. Probably just a happenstance but the section I sat in was full of people who seemed to really enjoy baseball, not the normal legion of dumbasses who are more interested in ice cream helmets and getting on closed circuit TV than the actual game.

Hell yes. I have dreaded the first 2/3 of this season and the last, waiting for the trading deadlines to pass. I know that rebuilding has to happen but I hated to see Oswalt, Berkman, and Bourn (especially Bourn) leave. Now that the amputation is over I am enjoying the games again, though I am impatiently waiting for Carlos Lee's ranching career to shift into high gear.
I took two of my kids to the game and we all had a blast. They are 10 and 7 years old and don't give a shit about pennant races and think ballpark nachos are edible. The boys cheered every time the Astros got a hit or out, and gave double high fives for runs. My 10 year old, the little gentleman, asked me, "may I yell that the Reds Suck?" I said no, it might sound like you're saying "Red Sox." Call them the Dickities instead. Soon I will explain what FTC means, but I suspect he all ready knows. It was a treat to see Lyles get his first win and JD Martinez get a HR. Best of all, it was wonderful to see the bullpen hold a lead. After the win my seven year old told me that the Astros aren't the worst team in baseball anymore because they have new players. I agreed, if with a little less beaming certainty.

I thought the energy level in the first game was profoundly better. They seemed to come out and want to play as a team, rather than a bunch of guys making another day. I don't know how long that excitement can carry them, but I am enjoying watching them play.

I suspect the dumbasses stop going in late-April. So, you're pretty safe unless the visiting team is the Braves or Cubs.

I've said this a few times so I'll leave it alone after this, but wait till you get to see Schafer play. He's not just a throw in. He's a major league CF with + speed and arm. He's no Michael Bourn out there, but he's pretty damn good.

Honestly, for me it's been a little underwhelming watching the last few days. It'd be one thing if all these youngsters were the future of the team, but I can't shake the feeling that most won't be around in a couple of years aside from Lyles, Altuve, and maybe Bourgeois. But that's just me.

Bourgeois is not a "youngster." Martinez has a good a shot as anyone to be the "real deal."

I think we'll know more about some of these kids next year, after the pro scouts have had a chance to dissect their game. Then we'll see which guys were just having rookie luck and which can make the necessary adjustments to stick in the bigs.

I'm getting a kick out of this season and am looking forward to heading to the game on Sunday. Sometimes it's nice to watch a game and if they win think "hey, nice one!" instead of the hanging-on-every-pitch feeling of a contender. Of course, I'd rather they were contending, but rebuilding can be fun too.

With Mike Trout being sent back to the minors, Altuve is the youngest position player in the majors. Lyles is the youngest pitcher since Jacob Turner and Julio Tehran have gone back to the minors. Even with those guys being in the Majors - Lyles is the 4th youngest player & Altuve the 5th youngest player to play in MLB this year.

By the way, maybe this was noted in the GZ, but... incredibly statuesque play by the Reds 3B on that Martinez double. That was a ball that really should've been at least knocked down by a major league 3B.

Likewise nomenclature has been deemed passé. The word has colonial/imperial undertones along with a discriminatory nuance. It purports to differentiate but in fact is exclusionary and judgmental. You would do well to avoid its use altogether.

We've heard 'em all.

By far the most impressive thing about LSU was the fact that on Wednesday night some of the RVs would start to show up, and by Thursday night there'd be an entire Cajun village set up in the Rice stadium parking lot. On Friday and Saturday there was some hellacious tailgating going on.

I heard the cheer when I went to Texas in 74, and it did go "Rice, Rice, Rice". I never actually heard the cheer at an event; it was something that had happened in the past and was even then unforgivable. But funny. I probably repeated it to my Rice graduate wife on the third date. It is a completely reprehensible cheer. But funny. And unforgettable.

I don't think I've repeated it to my Rice graduate daughter.

Chinamen and rice seem to be related to college football for some reason that I can't discern. Was it Barry Switzer who complained "How much rice can a Chinaman eat?" when referring to OKlahoma fans that were not satisfied with a win but demanded a blow out?
