"I still can’t make sense of Friday night’s one-sided deal that made a great Phillies ballclub a whole lot better.

Hunter Pence, 1-for-5 with an eighth-inning RBI single to center in his Phillies debut Saturday night, became the new right fielder and No. 5 hitter the night before for a price so low that Atlanta Braves execs supposedly are infuriated. They apparently think they offered a much sweeter package for Pence, and are whispering that Wade only will trade with his old assistant GM, perhaps because he knows he’ll be canned after the 2011 season and wants to return in some fashion to the club he GM’d from 1998-2005 without winning anything.

Braves apparent anger aside, Amaro-Wade II was just as big a steal as Amaro-Wade I."

This only has a chance of holding water if they come out and say exactly who they offered.
Goin' for a bus ride.

I started hearing about this right after the trade.  To me it sounded like the Braves front office was doing everything to deflect the heat they were getting from their fans for not landing Pence or Beltran. They have leaked names to their beat writer, including this:

"It has been reported that Wren offered Mike Minor, the Braves’ third-best pitching prospect"

I believe that "report" was a rumor from Buster Onley.

Apparently the tradition of sniveling still lives in that organization.

Maybe Wade gave Bourn up for the crap prospects as an agreement to keep them quiet.

Ok, NOW all of these deals make sense.

I think this too. They wanted Bourn.
