Player Walk-Up Music
« on: May 26, 2011, 09:45:02 am »
Alyson gives us the list.

What stands out to me are:

Hunter Pence:     Before I Forget by Slipknot; Coming Undone by Korn

J.R. Towles:         Down in Flames by Stoney LaRue

Seriously guys...?

Wandy's is the only song I've ever heard of.

And...if I had walk-up music...mine would be When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin.  At least for now.

A good song, but metaphorically problematic for a pitcher.

I would choose John Cage's 4'33".

Wasn't "Kashmir" one of Bagwell's regular selections?  Not the original LZ version but a cover version (unfortunately).

Speaking of problematic...how about Call Me The Breeze by J.J. Cale/Lynyrd Skynyrd for Hunter Pence?  It'd be accurate, anyway.

Kashmir was indeed Bagwell's.  It may have been some hip hop cover version, but Kashmir was the tune.  Biggio was a U2, IIRC.  I liked it in the Dome when the whole team ran out onto the field in the 1st inning to Song For America by Kansas.

I recall Pence coming out to two different Katy Perry songs last year.  I assumed someone was having some fun with him after I heard the first.  I assumed he was an idiot after I heard the second.

If I recall correctly the first time it was a joke; I think he promised his girlfriend she could pick the song one night or some sappy tale like that.  But he got some hits, and decided to stick with it.

No shit.  Mrs. Hawk and I are at the game on Monday night, and even she noticed how slow Hall was.  Come on, get in the fuckin box.

She also mentioned lack of speed in the Human Rain Delay himself, Jeff Fulchino.

He was asking for suggestions on twitter.  Those were the suggested songs.

My music would be "Bad to the Bone" by Milk Kan.  I know none of you have heard it, but I have pimped the band here before and this track would be perfect: MK's anti-folk style fused with hip hop and punctuated with a heavy guitar riff.

After Denial League last night, a couple of us fellas went for a few beers at some some run down icehouse in Old Spring Branch.  On the jukebox came "I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones.  I thought of Hunter Pence.  Right after that came Social Distortion's "Ball and Chain".  For some reason, Carlos Lee came to mind.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Don't know if I Wanna Be Sedated is the right song for Pence, but he needs to be sedated. I'm sure of that. Pence looks like a tweaker.

Ooh!  Ooh!  Tell us a story!

ETA:  I posted this before I saw your very heartfelt and sincere post in the Jeff Connoway thread, and I don't want you to interpret this as me simply taking the piss in response to that.  But, if you do have a good tweaker story, I'm sure I'm not the only person who would like to hear it.

No offense taken. I'm open about my struggles because if someone can identify with my story and it helps them, that makes it all worthwhile.

I wasn't a tweaker myself; I used the benzos primarily, going in the other direction toward being comatose. One of my favorite tweaker stories of all time involved a brother of mine in recovery who's a great friend. He'd get all tweaked out on meth, run naked through the woods and then spend the night in the peep show until one of the girls in the peep show told him that it was time for him to go home. He told her that he still had money and to get her ass back in and dance. The police came and fetched him. This happened more than once. Actually it happened often. It's really funny to hear him tell his story in NA meetings, particularly in treatment facilities, because he still has all of the mannerisms of a tweaker despite having been clean for over eight years.

Drug addicts fall into the following categories: those who like benzos like me, tweakers, those who prefer alcohol (which is a drug) and those who prefer opiates. Marijuana also could be a separate category; I had a huge problem with it too. Binge drinking didn't help me either.

I can attest to that.  While I was losing my long-standing battle with depression a couple of years back, Paul was there to check in with me on multiple occasions. Which leads me to something else I've been meaning to post here for a bit (and will do the long-winded version at some point, just haven't "felt it" yet): depression can be one of those "poor me I'm a wuss looking for excuses sort of thing," but it can also be one of those "I don't have the strength to move and am tired of fighting the fight" sort of things that can kill you, or destroy you and everything around you that you care about. It took me a good year+ of busting my ass to get myself turned around (at the cost of walking away from my practice and 'going home' to Texas to battle it head-on), but things have been good for a while now (though I remain diligent as not to 'back-slide'). I guess I say this just because I've been meaning to for a while... If you're struggling with depression, feel free to shoot me or Paul a PM. I appreciate that it may 'seem' stupid to do so on some glorified internet chat room (no offense SnS'ers, but you get my point), but can assure you that if you give enough of a shit to PM us, we'll certainly given a shit enough to share what we can.

And with that, thanks again Paul (and the others here, you know who you are) for being there - even if you didn't realize it.

Thanks, Lee and Sphinx. Even though I have not met anyone on this board, I'd help any of you because we've been friends for a long time. I am bipolar, but I am heavily medicated (as I say) for your protection. There is nothing wrong with mental illness. I just suffer from a chemical imbalance. However, it's nothing more to me than another condition like high blood pressure that I must take medicine for. It's not my fault that I am bipolar, but it is up to me to do something about it. Just like my addiction.
