Awesomeness. Get home to see HOU with runners at 2B and 3B with 1 out, only to watch Carlos K (nice breaking pitch though) and 'J-Mike' K.  FML!

Middle 1: HOU 0, TOR 0

TOR goes down in order in B1.  End 1: HOU 0, TOR 0

BTW, lineup make you grumpy?  Me too...  THIS made me kinda happy though.  Perhaps it (or at least the thought of it) will make you kinda happy as well...

T2: Jo-Jo Reyes (LHP)

Downs Ks (3rd straight Astros K);
Johnson: Rips one to the LF corner, tries to stretch it into a 2B but gets gunned down at 2B (not really blaming CJ here, nice rip, ball one-hopped the wall and came back quick to LF, JD says it wasn't reckless).
Hall: Grounds out to 3B on the 3-2 pitch.

Middle 2: HOU 0, TOR 0

Hell, they had two on, no outs before FotF nubbed the first pitch between first and second.

B2: Anuery Rodriguez

Hill: 2B off the LF wall (JD: "Missed that one by about a metre."). 0 out, runner on 2B.
Rivera: Sharp grounder to SS (in front of runner), Barmes with the quick throw to 3B getting Hill easy. 1 out, runner on 1B.
Arencibia: Hard grounder (2B) past a diving CJ. 1 out, runners on 2B and 3B.
Thames: roller to 2B, Rivera scores, Arencibia to 3B.  HOU 0, TOR 1: 2 outs, runner at 3B.
Davis: flies out.

End 2: HOU 0, TOR 1

T3: Jo-Jo Reyes back on the hill (Reyes has not won in MLB since June '08, having gone 26 games without a win; TOR starters have provided the least amount of innings of any team in the majors - any guesses about what will almost assuredly happen in this game?)

Towlie: Flies out to Jose Bautista in right center. 1 out, none on.

Bourn: Strikes out looking. 2 outs, none on.

Barmes: Struck out.

Middle 3: HOU 0, TOR 1

B3: Anuery back for another...

La-y-nce Nix: Roller to 3B. 1 out, none on.

Esobar: Groundout to CJ. 2 outs, none on.

Patterson: punched on a line to LF. 2 outs, speed on 1B, greatest hitter on the planet (currently, 13 HRs in last 22 games) up at the dish.

Bautista: Hits a gapper into left center field, but Michaels robs him with a nice diving catch. 3 outs, 1 stranded.

End 3: HOU 0, TOR 1

T4: Jo-Jo back

Spaz: got on 1B somehow (late cut-back to the game), think it was a single. 0 out, Spaz on 1B.

Carlos: Soft pop-up to the right side of the infield. 1 out, Spaz at 1B.

Michaels: Grounds into 6-4-3 DP. 3 outs, none stranded.

Middle 4: HOU 0, TOR 1

I guess JD's question on whether it has been good pitching or bad hitting is being answered.

On the flip side, Anuery looks pretty decent. Giant upgrade over Figgy.

Who am I kidding. No need for PBP tonight. The end result of this game couldn't be telegraphed more clearly.  Reyes doesn't have a win in his last 26 starts. TOR SPs have the least amount of IPs in MLB.

Ballgame: Reyes goes the distance in a __ - 0 win for the Jays.

Accordingly, I'm calling it a day on my PBP.  If by some *miracle* this does not occur (or looks somehow like it may not occur), I'll update ya.  I wouldn't hold my breath though...

As an aside, nice DP in B4 by Barmes and then popup gets Anuery out of a bind in B4. Still 1-0 BJs thru 4.

Nah, not a complete game for Reyes. He'll get the win though. In front of 1200 lucky Canadian fans.

Did Towlie go 0 for his last 26?  Can Hall get to 5-gazillion strikeouts this season?  Those questions, and many more, answered in the T5 for the Astros...

Still 1-0 TOR in Middle 5.

Get this through y'alls thick skulls, the game starts at 7:07 EST, not 7:05 EST.

That's to accomodate the extra time it takes the Canadians to sing their cute national anthem. Just wait until Sunday when in the seventh inning everyone stands, the gentlemen remove their caps, all place their hands over their hearts and join in a stirring rendition of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

I like Brad Mills as much as anyone, more than most. But can someone help me understand why the FUCK Towles gets so much time behind the plate? Seriously. Why the hell is he catching Rodriguez? Why the hell is he catching anyone?

I wouldn't surprised if Rodriguez walked off the mound and chunked the ball at Pence and/or Hall.

They at least have injuries as an excuse.  The Stros just flat suck.

I would trade the entire Twins organization for the entire Astros organization so fast you wouldn't know what happened.

Absolutely. I was just pointing out that the Twins' current lineup looks pretty shaky. Of course, that's for totally different reasons than for the Astros.

Also wouldn't it be a good idea to eventually let Brett Wallace face left handed pitching?

Seriously Millsie? Seriously?!?!? Kids at 82 pitches, pitched well, and you're gonna take him out now for the lefty on lefty matchup and rely on this pen for the rest of the game?!?!?!?!?

I suppose it's possible that Mills thinks that after an ugly 5-game losing streak, it's more important to get a win than to take advantage of the learning opportunity for Rodriguez. Of course, there's no guarantee that this bullpen will aid in that quest.

Aaaaannnddd, del Rosario comes in and does his part right on cue.

OK, well, it could have been worse. If our guys can't get a couple of runs off of these junior circuit slapdicks then we deserve what we get.

Of course, if the Astros had a right fielder who wasn't a total disaster we'd be looking at a one run deficit.

Yes, it's really quite remarkable. Apparently, the recall is happening timezone by timezone, which raises all kinds of interesting possibilities. For example, Arizona doesn't observer DST; are they going with the CDT folks, or the MDT folks? What happens to those towns on the Illinois/Indiana border? What if you're in the Central timezone watching a game in the Eastern timezone? It should be fascinating, at least until the cataclysm begins.

I'm encouraged by Rodriguez. Some more experience and stamina, and I think he'll be a keeper. He's got good movement on his pitches.

You should have seen me working my magic last night. I gave up on the Mavs-OKC game in the 2nd quarter and actively avoided it so that the Thunder would have a chance. Meanwhile, I screwed San Jose in their game against Vancouver, and for my piece de resistance I watched the 9th inning of the Detroit-Boston game, tuning in in time to watch Papelbon strike out two after loading the bases in the top of the 9th, followed by Crawford driving in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. It's a rare power that I possess.

Expenses go way down in all of the red states, because the faithful will have all been raptured. But that's offset by all of the increased infrastructure repair required by the losers in the blue state. Fortunately, they'll only incur those expenses for five months. Projections for 2013 are for a break-even scenario: $0 income, $0 expenses.

Hall avoids the strikeout it T8 (primarily because Mills used Bogusevic to PH for Hall).  Towlie, however, doesn't let us down as he flies out to right to extend his streak to 0-27.

I just noticed that Towles leaves his unprotected hand down between his legs as the pitch comes in, i.e., completely exposed. Why isn't he continually injured?

Wait a minute: now he isn't doing it. And now he is. He's going to drive me nuts.

He usually hides his right hand behind his body. That also annoys me because I think it should be behind the glove. Why would you want your throwing hand half a mile away from where the ball is likely to end up? Especially if you're going to double-clutch the throw?

I was annoyed by the whole tattoo thing ten, fifteen years ago when it was mainly drunk chicks getting tramp stamped. Now, fuck, it's out of control. I wonder if these people realize that tattoos are relatively permanent. One day you're going to be a sixty year old with a tattoo of a pair of rosemary twigs or whatever they are on your neck.

I figure there's a ten- or fifteen-year window here where the hiring people are un-tattoo'ed and the prospective employees are fully tattoo'ed. Those interviews will be interesting. But after that, every place will look like a carnival.

If it makes you feel any better, I picked up Lopez in a couple of leagues (we'll see what becomes of it...).

What is the HOU consecutive hitless streak record?  IIRC, Ausmus holds it, but can't remember the total.

You know, I don't even care that he's oh for fucking fifty. It bothers me a lot that he is a terrible defensive catcher. Mitch Melusky is Johnny Bench compared to Towles.

I love The Band. "Rock of Ages" is one of my favorite albums, and the version of "Life Is A Carnival" on that album (replete with horns) is very similar to that SNL version.

I'm calling a Jose Bautista grand slam.  Over/under at 505'.

Turned on the game in the top of the 8th.  Day of rapture stuff doesn't seem so far fetched now

...but then again, everything is backwards in Canada
