Bragging
« on: April 23, 2011, 12:11:05 pm »
I just wanted to shout from the motherfucking mountaintop that I couldn't be more pleased to announce...

I finally cancelled my Time Warner services this morning and returned to DirecTV after two years.

Worst company in America - Time Warner or AT&T?   You decide.

I can't believe I went two years without HD non-local sports.

Oh. I thought you were going to announce that you'd closed on a five bedroom apartment in the Recoleta.

I was just talking about this with a friend. He was on the phone with them about internet issues and they ended up telling him he'd have to use a proxy server for his net access from now on because they couldn't fix his problem. He canceled immediately, and signed up with someone else.

He just got a bill from them for the last two months of service, couple hundred plus, that he'd already canceled out of. He called them and was told that the technicians couldn't get out there to shut him off so they continued to charge him.

Astonishing.

Yeah, they just told me they'd keep charging me until I returned their boxes even though the service had been cut from my apt 3 days ago.

I said "I'm not receiving any service from you and if you want your equipment back so badly, have someone come pick it up."   After 20 minutes of yelling, he agreed to stop charging me today, even though my service actually ended 3 days ago.   Which beat paying for two more weeks.

Don't do it holmes.

I was terrified that the DSL from Verizon that was bundled with DirecTV would be a billionth as fast as my TWC cable modem....nope, it turns out it was just another service TWC did poorly.   The DSL is somehow faster (at 1/4 the price).

The new quota or something else?  My AT&T dsl has been pretty solid, though i may just be close to the hub.

We have a shitload of problems with the modem/router and the support has been worse than clueless. I called up and told them I wanted to swap the modem-router combo for just a plain modem and they wanted 75 bucks for me to downgrade.

I bought my netgear wireless router/modem from best buy and it's much better than the 2-wire crap or westel shit AT&T tries to dump off on customers. I have no problems with my DSL circuit but sometimes the isp server gets so much traffic my speed gets cut way below the max rate.

I started out trying to forward it through to another router but the router to router connection gave me a lot of trouble as well.

We had DSL for the first year we were married, then switched to TW.  Our experience with RoadRunner has been much better than with AT&T, including Uverse.  In almost four years of having TW, I think I've had to reboot the cable modem only once and the speed is always great.  Obviously, someone's experience with either depends on a lot of different things, including wiring age/quality in your home and neighborhood.

AT&T tech support is worthless (not that TW's is much better).  When I had trouble setting up the DSL when first moving in way back when, after two hours on the phone the girl tried to convince me that my problem was not the DSL modem and that the network cards in all three of my different computers had all failed at the exact same time.  When I told her that was an unacceptable explanation and asked to speak to someone else, she said I would need to call back.

Yeah, they just told me they'd keep charging me until I returned their boxes even though the service had been cut from my apt 3 days ago.

They own the boxes and you are leasing them.  Why shouldn't they keep charging you until you returned their property?

I actually just did it tonight.  Happy to help if you're interested.  I put it in bridge mode and then connected it to a new Dlink dir-825 which has two bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) so you can have your basic traffic on one network and your streaming, etc. on another.

My main problem is that I get an ATT error message in the browser window very frequently (basically a "the network and/or router is down, try again later). I think it's more of a modem issue - the router just has shitty range in my house, and not N.

You fucking Nazi, I expect more from this site.  Especially from you.

You think I should be charged $10/day to keep their leased piece of shit $.05 Atlanta Scientific boxes on my floor?  Give me a fucking break.  I'm only leasing their equipment because they require me to.

I just want the record to show that I was pinko commie scum before and leading directly into becoming a citizen of Manhattan.

I can't imagine why anyone would live here if they weren't.

When I left New York I disconnected my cable with those clowns and said, OK, y'all come get my box. They said, Yeah, I don't think so. Bring it to our convenient East Elmhurst Queens location. Yeah, fuck that. I kept the box for years and those idiots would send me a bill every month for it.

Finally in a rare display of compassion I sent the goddam box back to them, probably ten years after I'd left New York, and they quit sending me bills. I had no idea they were so organized.

We got a new super.   Within a month of him starting, we got approved for a washer/dryer (which changed my wife's view of the apartment entirely), a new a/c unit in our living room, and DirecTV.   Now I'm trying to sign a 5 year extension on the lease.

AT&T is the greatest wireless provider in the history of wireless.  It's not even close.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

My phone is literally useless in downtown. I had to cycle it through airplane mode three times a couple of weeks ago just to get 3G. This was driving. I don't even bother to answer my phone at home anymore because I know I won't be able to sustain a call.
