It certainly wouldn't be sore from hitting the ball.

Increasingly constant theme for my viewing of this year's Astros:  I tune in just in time to see multiple members of the other team crossing home plate followed by a tone of jaded poise in Bill Brown's voice.

I don't know if I can stand watching Zambrano anymore. I can't recall any player that made want to throw things at the TV as much as that piece of crap. Think, I'll turn off WGN and listen to Milo.

It was right down fucking Broadway. They had him set up for something, anything not right in his fucking wheelhouse. How you can throw Soriano a fastball in that situation is fucking mindboggling.

Clark was thinking Soriano would flub cutoff throw, but he didn't.

Castro made the good part of that out.

But you notice how Soriano didnt' step on his dick and actually hit the cutoff man?

ok, why didn't Downs step on 3B before the throw home?  So close to a triple play.

If he steps on third, it's not a triple play, as Towles would have to have waited to tag the runner and then had no shot at Soriano.

I'm not sure.  But the worst part of that play is the fact that it broke up the no-hitter and I've stopped thinking about what you'd do if Zambrano threw the clean slate.

hottest current astro?

i'm going to try to think like a woman here:

-bourn's a handsome guy & seems like the type who'd open doors for you on dates & would generally make you feel like a princess by giving little offhand indirect compliments that seem cheesy on the surface but actually make you melt inside

-wandy's got a certain boyishness about him that's mighty appealing. he seems shy and well-mannered, but of course his inconsistency might be a turn-off as he will seem pretty underwhelming to your friends when you try to show him off & he's overly shy and doesn't seem too bright

-pence is goofy and not that bright, which girls seem to like for some reason. he's got little long-term relationship potential, but you'll have the time of your life for a couple of weeks and your friends will be impressed that you bagged such a stud

-brett wallace seems to have husband written all over him, nice guy, handsome face, will reveal more and more interesting depth the more you're around him.

-angel sanchez seems to have some mystery about him which might be pretty exciting. you never know where he's going to take you on dates, and he just seems to know how to show a girl a good time. your friends think you're crazy, but they've never spent the night with him

so yeah, that's my first impressions. i guess if i had to choose one hottest astros i'd go with bourn, but sanchez and wallace have some serious darkhorse potential. your thoughts?

Probably the only shot at a triple play would have been step on third and go around the horn

And even then not likely, as he'd still have had to take an extra step or two before going to 2B, and because the bases were loaded, they weren't holding the runner at 1B.  Hall would have been buried at 2B, and had no shot at the turn.

Soto is at first.  Not likely to be close enough to break it up.  (of course if he was, you are in trouble).  Either way, I like the throw home first option and let Wandy get the last out.

He would have been.  Not being held on...huge secondary lead...and extra two steps before making the throw...Hall gets rolled.  Hell, it would have been close just getting Soto at 2B.  Either way no triple play and run scores.  I'm Ok with stepping on the bag and then throwing home, but the safe play is to come home immediately.

The round the horn with bases loaded is a very risky play because of the run. They were playing in to try to prevent another run from scoring. Get the lead runner.

i'm going to try to think like a woman here:

Miss Limey commented in Spring that this was not an attractive bunch of guys.  Pence especially so.

pence seems like a major dud. he asks you out on a date and you get all dressed up because he says he's taking you to the best restaurant in town, but he ends up taking you to Rainforest Cafe and spends the whole night talking about baseball

Well, thank God we gave Wandy an extension.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

A glacial paced 1B with two extra base hits and a .703 OPS is the ray of light.

I mean, hitting/fighting is encouraged in hockey! In soccer, the closest you'll get to a fight is a guy falling over because someone almost tripped him.

I was judging the throw itself.  You can see just how little he has on it.

Bad pitch to handle, fast runner.

I had my opening narrative for my series preview already written in my head.  How the Cubs won the first inning in two of the games 10-0, lost all the others 21-3, and still pulled out two wins.  About how you can't spot a "major league" team 5 runs, and expect to win.

This inning has just fucked that

Someone descibe said slapdickery?

After the Castro steal of 2b with one out, base hit to LF plates Castro, Barney to 2b despite the cutoff throw.  Byrd chops one about 15 feet, Lopez fields, throws it into RF, Byrd to 3rd.  Next Cub swats one through the drawn in infield.

Now 9-5, Rodriguez in for Lopez.

Castro singles and steals second
Barney doubles, Castro scores
Byrd hit a dribbler to Lopez who throws it into RF, Barney scores, Byrd to 3B
Ramirez singles, Byrd scores...9-5 bad guys.

So much for Zambrano being pissed.  Gets the win and hits the game-winning home run.

Both of which are why I have and will always hate(d) him.

At least the game wasn't played in Milwaukee.

is this true? Is that a record for a pitcher vs 1 team?

I don't know. How many did Danny Graves hit against the Astros?

Looked it up - he actually now has 6 against the astros, but also has 6 against the Reds. Danny Graves had just 2 HR against the Astros. Not sure the best way to see what the record is.

Z is the active HR by pitcher leader (according to wiki). My best guess as to the record is Bob Lemon, who had 9 HR against the Washington Senators, but haven't found a comprehensive way to check. A few had 8 vs. one opponent. It's amazing how many on the pitcher all-time HR list were great pitchers (Spahn, Bob Gibson, Walter Johnson, Don Drysdale, probably some of the others I don't recognize)

With 6 against the astros and the reds, Z has a good chance at setting the all-time record at some point.

Danny Graves' first two hits in his career were the HRs against the Astros.  For a long time (until he became a starter later in his career), they were his only career hits.
