My favorite memory was that one time back in '99 at Milwaukee when some maniac jumped out of the stands and attempted to waylay Billy Spiers. Hampton sprinted from the mound and started kicking the guy as Billy had just wrestled him to the ground. Got two or three good kicks in before security took over. Good teammate.

But it was sad to watch him try to pitch for us again a few years ago. He truly had nothing but guile by then and was merely a shadow of his former self. he could handle a bat too.

Berly Visgar was the douche, and Hampy was first into the melee and, being right-handed, was able to wail away on him without hurting his pitching hand.  He said a lot of stupid stuff to try and cover over his greed when picking contracts, but he was a Bad Motherfucker.

I saw him pitch in AZ this ST. He was one out away from a good outing, then hits rained down, and he could not get the third out. He did not get out of the first inning the next time out.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I liked Hampton's bulldog personality.  He reminded me a of a miniature version of Ron Villone.  With more talent.  Big Rig was one of my favorites.  If only he pitched better.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

It was also fun to watch Hampton run the bases.  Sucker was fast.

He was also the subject of one of the more vicious / hilarious put downs ever, when Jay Mohr said he looked like "a gay curious george".
