Nader proposes getting rid of athletic scholarhips

He says they should be need-based instead. But I'd think most athletes in the big money sports like footballs would qualify for need-based scholarships anyway.

WASHINGTON -- Consumer advocate Ralph Nader is calling for the elimination of college athletic scholarships, saying the move is necessary to "de-professionalize" college athletes.

Nader's League of Fans, a group aimed at reforming sports, proposes that the scholarships be replaced with need-based financial aid. He says that would help restore academic integrity to college sports.

He's a dope. If people don't like the "professionalized" nature of college sports, there are plenty of schools you can go to avoid that sort of thing.

My preference would be for the NBA and NFL create minor leagues for athletic kids who aren't interested in going to college or want the money now and then might consider college later. It works well for baseball, imo.

Ralph Nader has been pretty delusional for a good long while now.

Charo was a better guitar player anyhow.

Not really, if admittedly its unrealistic.  Didn't the NBA start the CBA and don't kids go to Europe to play? How am I wrong?

I think it's sad that we have to wait for idiots like Ralph Nader with shitty ideas to bring up subjects that otherwise greatly need to be discussed.
