The baseball related t-shirt to end all baseball related t-shirts.

Nevermind that the goatee was never quite that big when Bags was wearing that cap, I would wear the hell out of this shirt.

Hell.  Yes.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Sweet find.  $30.81 out the door, btw.

Cant help but wonder if they're intentionally circumventing player royalties, though.

That, or they're also appealing to the Caminiti crowd...

Who is the White Sox one? Saw a Brewers Rollie Fingers, Yankee Reggie, Twins Johan Santana? Cards' Ozzie, Mets Hernandez or some similar jerk-off, not sure who Cubs, Tigers and some others are. Cool idea though.

I guess I won't be the only one wearing it.

And it's remarkable how few of the shoes for sale at Nike's web site come in my fairly normal size.

I figured the ChiSox was Baines, and that the Twins was Kirby, not Santana.

Puckett certainly fits the retro theme more than Santana (and wouldn't Twins fans still be angry at Johan?), the longish-seeming face just threw me off.

Huh. Odd that the Astros are one of only 13 designs. 3 Yankees (Reggie, Mattingly, Munson?) but no Red Sox. Tigers must be Gibson, still can't figure the Cub.

I've probably told this story before, but in the late 1990s I was sitting in our developers' room with a bunch of very bright guys failing to find the phone number for a restaurant on yahoo or lycos.  I pointed out to them that the very monitor that they were working from was raised up by sitting on a Yellow Pages, which of course had the phone number.

By a Hairdresser!

You bet. When she'd come to the big city, by gum, she was going to go to the sa-lon and get her hair fixed by a hairdresser.

I remember the last couple of times she went in there she was wearing a wildly inappropriately heavy coat for a midsummer day. Those men down there had told her that someone was going to steal her coat so she insisted on wearing it everywhere, poor girl.

I just recently found a little treasure trove of 8-tracks, in a ratty, fake-leather carrying case, stashed away in a sub-attic.

Moot The Hoople (All The Yound Dudes), Black Sabbath (Vol. 4), Neil Young (Tonight's The Night), Sly & The Family Stone (Fresh), etc.  :sigh:  If I only had a player they'd play worth a shit on.

Who am I kidding?  They never played worth a shit - for very long - even when I did have something to play them on.

The (barely) concealed sexual imagery/innuendo in the lyrics of a song like "Man Of War" are much more appealing to me than the explicit and profane things one hears from other artists.  In the latter, there is the implied assumption the audience has to be hit over the head with the message.  In the former, it is kind of like the singer is winking at you - you are in on the joke - while he sneaks a line past the censors about being "a demon of a seaman (semen?)" or some such.  Subtlety is relative I guess.

One of Hunter's lines from "Wild East" - Some cynic from the methadone clinic/Keeps on bothering me - tends to stay in my head for awhile after I listen to the song.

It is hard to believe Ian Hunter is 71.

Nope. I know I'm not the only one here who loves Mott and Ian Hunter.

Brain Capers is one of my all-time favorite albums. I wish they'd continued following that formula, wish Ian Hunter hadn't switched to guitar, and wish Ralphs had continued to contribute more equally as a songwriter. The bonus tracks on "All the Young Dudes," especially the pre-Bowie "Mama's Little Jewel" are what I mean.

My favorite Ian/Mott songs were All the Way from Memphis and Roll Away the Stone. I always like their sound and style but never had enough money to buy everything I wanted. I remember looking at all of their albums, holding them in my hands and contemplating the purchase but always ended up with something else. I liked that they wore some pretty outrageous gear and has some classic names, like Buffin Griffin, or Ariel Bender, or Overend Watts.

Mott songs always had that distinct bottom end rumbling ROAR, that seemed to be more than just a Thunderbird run through an SVT stack. I loved the way British bands had a different sound, like the boxy scritching and mad sustain that Ronson got with a Les Paul, the hollow thumping of Trevor Bolder's bass or the insane runs that Geezer Butler would lay down.

Is this the 1981 Music thread, 'cause I've been listening to Roxy Music's Flesh and Blood.  the vocals are good, and I'm entertained by the covers, but it seems heavily influenced by disco.

Its been suggested by unrealistic, drunk individuals that a Brian Ferry + Brian Eno reunion would make a really great Superbowl halftime show. I'm not sure America is ready for that.

Did I ever mention that Andy Mackay is, in my opinion, the greatest oboist in rock-n-roll history. I like Jay Thomas and Roy Wood but they don't have the chops of Mackay. Iva Davis from Icehouse is pretty good. The oboe is the most underrated instrument in rock.

Was it as slanted a view as the bio by Ian Curtis' wife (which I haven't read, but was the basis for the movie "Control," which I saw)?

No. In fact, Warren knew what was going to be in it. He knew what a bastard he'd been most of his life, and it was only towards the end that he finally figured it out and was working to be a better person.
