DeShields was stopped at approximately 11:30 p.m. ET after allegedly driving the wrong way on a one-way street near the University of Georgia campus. He told Athens-Clarke County police that he was leaving a Kappa Alpha gathering. According to the police, he said he had consumed a sip of beer earlier in the night and consented to a breath test, which registered .076 BAC. *** Upon later being taken to the police station, he registered a .092 and a .094 in an intoxication test. Police found four open bottles of liquor in the car, a 2010 Cadillac Escalade...
A sip, classic. Most people say one or two. .08 on average = 4 beers consumed in 1 hour per 180 lbs. subtract .02 per hour. Most college "gatherings" don't start till 9 or 10. If he arrived at 10, then he slammed 4 beers and drove off. 9pm would mean he probably had about 5 beers. Now throw in the liquor and figure maybe 2-3 shots and a couple of chasers.
Considering it was a Saturday, it could have been an all day "gathering". Which could put participation time in the 6-8 hour range. Steady drinking for 8 hours with a final BAC of .08 puts it in the 11 shot/beer combo range.

Unfortunate for the boys of Kappa Alpha though. High profile DUI like that will force the campus to come down hard on them.
