Jordan Lyles scouting reports
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:49:48 pm »
Nice piece over at the Crawfish Boxes with various scouting reports on Lyles since 2008.  LINK
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Trust BP to be the wet blanket.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

Trust BP to be the wet blanket.

That was BP's version of high praise for an Astro.  It likely pained them to write it.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Yeah, if you didn't know they were doing a report on Lyles, you'd swear BP was talking about Greg Maddux.

Trimming it down even more, it looks like the consensus is:

FB: plus, with little life but great command sitting in low 90s delivered in smooth easy delivery.  Room in frame to add more velo
CB: above average, could grow, but loopy and flattens out a little too much on occasion
CH: plus plus.  Could be a MLB out pitch
Makeup: plus plus
Projection: #2/#3

I have to be honest that in reading the article, I wonder how many times these reports are generated by looking at other reports instead of the pitcher.
The test of a true champion is how he reacts to adversity on days when it is bound to come.

I used to assume that these reports were reliable info.  I had never seen any of these guys, so I had no reason to doubt the stuff.  Now, after seeing Lyles on three occasions, and viewing some of these reports, I believe most of the internet minor league stuff is total crap.

With regard to Lyles specifically, Ben Badler, and of course his coach, Wes Clements gave good info.
