UT Coaching Hires
« on: January 04, 2011, 10:41:47 am »
Per Recruitocosm (thanks to whomever on this site introduced me to it).

Looks to be Chryst as OC and Bostad as OL, both from Wisconsin.
Wyatt from Kansas (announced yesterday) as WR coach.
Bo Davis from Bama as DL coach, maybe S&C.
And Fangio from Stanford as DC.

Only Wyatt has been confirmed, but it sounds like a lot is going down today.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Manny Diaz has landed in Austin and had already been contacted by UT. Tons of smoke around this one for the DC hire.

Last night made me feel a lot better about the Fangio hire.

Vic Fangio as DC? Maybe they'll hire Chris Palmer as OC and really get the band back together.

Just saw that too.  Interesting.  I didn't even know Mississippi State was good again until bowl season.

I thought the MSU's defensive approach to Auburn was one of the best all year at containing  Newton. 17-14 in Starkville.

I watched that game, too.  You're spot on, but Cam Newton wasn't THE Cam Newton at that point; it took the South Carolina game the next week to give us a glimpse of what was about to happen.

Had he not been such a pain in the ass moron at Florida, do you suppose we'd have ever heard of Tim Tebow?  That's the offical Auburn line on it, anyway.

The most entertaining part of the Favre allegations has been the details that show he has absolutely no game.  I've heard 15-year olds do better.

Eh, "game" is predicated on necessity.  As a big stud football QB, I doubt he ever needed to develop "game".  There's are tons of groupie's who will sleep with him just to say they did. (eta)  His biggest fault seems to be not developing any ability to differentiate a groupie from an attractive woman in his immediate vicinity.

As for the stars of poor character (Manning, Rothlisberger - no one mention him yet?, Vick - on the redemption path reportedly, Steve McNair -shot by his psycho girlfriend, and now Favre) am I the only person making a mental note of thanks to my parents for discouraging me from selecting sports starts as my personal role models?

I think effort is the difference between Tom Brady, who is married to an awesome supermodel, and Brett Favre who sends pictures of his nuts to groupies.  I think its probably worth it.

He never got to explore his sexuality during puberty.  i.e., he was so busy becoming the perfect golf machine that he never sowed his oats.

More like his father was more interested in helping shape Tiger into the perfect golf machine, he left Tiger with absolutely no guide, checks or limitations on his personal behavior.  The end result is a narcissistic bastard.

On that topic, I read an article about Earl Woods in Golf or Golf Digest.  The basic story is the behavior that got Tiger in trouble is exactly the role model his father provided.  Much of the article came from Earl Wood's daughter's perspective, Tiger's half-sister (they have no relationship).  IIRC, the daughter explains that her mother and Tiger's mother knew about Earl's behavior.  The first divorced him, the second demanded he live somewhere else.  It gets more sordid from there.  But the lack of a moral compass seems to be an inherited trait.

Manning?  I've heard the rumors, but I didn't think it was solid enough to warrant him being in the same company as Big Ben, Vick, Favre, etc.

As a parent I'd say learned.  But that's just my opinion and I'm far from a parenting/genetic expert.  I'm more of a trial and error style parent.  That said, I know a guy (or two) who believe their wandering ways are genetically inherent and therefore beyond their self control.

I honestly don't know or care.  I simple added the names I knew and were previously mentioned.  I mean, I could have referenced Steve Garvey for the sake of accuracy.  But I was afraid that would trigger one of Alkie's "Bagwell loves road pussy" rants.

If they blame genetics, then they free themselves from the responsibility of having to correct the problem. That's very common in addicts of all types.

UTK had to pay out some money when he was in college for exposing himself to a female trainer. IIRC, Fulmer went to talk to her and wound up asking her if she liked "big men".

Though they probably are right to a certain extent.  This does not mean their behavior needs to be indulged, it means they have to work harder and get more help to avoid it.

I LOVE this hire.  Bennie Wylie was the S&C coach in Dallas when Larry Allen benched 700# and at TT when Rylan Reed benchthe ed 625#.  Nice clip here...  http://www.burntorangenation.com/2011/1/6/1919139/bennie-wylie-new-texas-s-c-coach-per-reports

Busy doing what?

And WTF is he going to do NOW that he has a subordinate doing football for him?  At Texas.

According to Mack, Madden was too busy to focus on Football, so Madden hired Wylie to work under him to be the football S&C coach.  Odd.

Sort of, if you don't know the whole story.  Mad Dog has grown incredibly lazy and set in his ways after once being among the best in the field.  However, he's one of Mack bestest pals.  Due to that, he has the title assistant AD in charge of strength and conditioning for the university.  Which is a complete joke, as if Todd Wright who is in the discussion for best s&c coach in college basketball, would listen to a single thing Mad Dog tells him.  Anyway, because of that title Mack can justify hiring Wylie as assistant coach, who's actually the real coach.  All to avoid firing his friend.

Crazy Joe McCluskey was fucking nuts.  It's why they called him Crazy Joe.

I LOVE this hire.  Bennie Wylie was the S&C coach in Dallas when Larry Allen benched 700# and at TT when Rylan Reed benchthe ed 625#.  Nice clip here...  http://www.burntorangenation.com/2011/1/6/1919139/bennie-wylie-new-texas-s-c-coach-per-reports

Bennie fucking rules.  He has a great work ethic and a magnetic personality, great addition for UT.

Also, Bennie could bench 515...at his playing weight of 215.  Not too shabby for a Running Back at Sam Houston State.  does not look like he has let himself go too much...

What's the reason for making MA co-OC here and now? Worried about him leaving?

I think part of it is a reward for working hard to keep the recruited class together, as well as an opportunity for him to get some advanced work on being an OC because that's his next step in the ladder.

Does anyone not related to Major still care about him becoming HC eventually?

My friends and I have decided to hold off on our season ticket purchases to see if that will happen.

Meaning you'll only buy season tix if he is fired?

I just plopped down deposits on stanford season tix; now have to see how many cross country trips the wife is up to with a 1 year old

As the only season ticket holder, they're not willing to move some of the games to your backyard?
