Syrup.  Always nice with pancakes.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Figueroa: not a real Astro.  Just executed the rundown perfectly.

Suppan walks.  Shit, seriously?
Schumaker singles on first pitch to CF, Suppan to 2b.
Miles flies to a "sprinting" Lee.
Pujols pops to Pence.
Holliday HBP on 3-2 to load bases - Figueroa is all over the place.
Jay bounces to mound, Figueroa chooses the 1-2 force for some reason.

Mid 3, still 2-0 STL.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Actually I was watching the opening innings at Maggiano's.  Pence was running for a double out of the box, and only looked up to see the ball when he was half way to 2B, just about when the ball was getting there.  His face was worth all those words, plus a thousand others.

I have a good idea as to with whom they should start.  Hopefully he's ok with setting an example.

For those in need of PBP:

Top 5, the Jakes loaded the bases but Agente Feliz flew out to end it without further damage.

Bottom 5:

Wallace BB
Castro 2B, Wallace to 3rd
Bogusevic FC, Wallace out at home, Castro to 3rd
Bourn Sac Fly plates Castro
Kepp batting, Bogey swipes 2nd, then Kepp walks.

Right now Drinkin' Dave is at the mound and Pence is up with 2 on and 2 out.  2-1 Thirds.

Top 6:

Chacin replaces Figueroa
Rasmus g/o to Kepp
Monlina singles to RF (he has most of the 3rds hits this week I believe)
Melancon replaces Chacin
Stavinoha PHs for Suppan, and whiffs swinging (like Suppan couldn't have done that)
Schumaker g/o to Kepp

Mid 6:  4-2 Astros

Actually I was watching the opening innings at Maggiano's.  Pence was running for a double out of the box, and only looked up to see the ball when he was half way to 2B, just about when the ball was getting there.  His face was worth all those words, plus a thousand others.

Remember the Pence with the beaker head on it?  We have been down this road before.

Nah, Mills won't leave Byrdak out there long enough to totally hang himself, Lindstrom on the other hand maybe.

I once grounded out to the centerfielder too.  Of course, that was special circumstances, but I bet the 8-3 groundout looked mighty funny in the scorebook.

We had a guy on our men's league team a few years ago ground out 7-3. He slipped coming out of the batter's box and the left fielder rifled him out by about half a step at first.

I was never thrown out by the leftfielder, a la Sean Casey.  But when thrown out by the CFer, he was playing really shallow, like just 20 or so feet off the infield dirt...I hit a screamer that nearly took the pitchers head off, stumbled out of the box, and the CFer came up firing and nailed me.

I've seen it in a church league, though it was mostly an accident. LF was on the '84 state champ BBteam. Batter, pitcher from the other team, was a good athlete, but did have a prosthetic leg. He drove the ball well down the line, but the LF, and I know it was not intentional, overthrew the SS...the 1st baseman picked it up on the hop while standing on the bag.

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

We had a guy on our men's league team a few years ago ground out 7-3. He slipped coming out of the batter's box and the left fielder rifled him out by about half a step at first.

i have seen 9-3 outs a couple of times in games i coached.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Saw one live at Forbes Field once ... Clemente to Stuart.  I cannot remember the baserunner (or even the opposing team).
