I'm pretty sure the mere mention of a broom will doom the Astros to a loss today.

3B Ump from Tuesday night is being forced to suck Ryan Howard's cock in apology.

They are presenting Roy Halliday with all this memorabilia from his perfect game from earlier this year.  They were giving him so many gifts, it looked like the goddamn Price is Right!  But I won't complain...Astros are on national TV!

It was all fun and games until Scott Boras coldcocked the fan that bid $1.

Yeah, but a painting of Halliday?  A bronze cast of his hand?  A 'perfect game' necklace for his wife?  I guess I haven't ever seen that type of pageantry after a no-hitter.

no hitters are fairly common...perfectos, not so much.  the ceremony may be a little over the top, but the act was a big deal.

They way DoRay described Lee's homer was as though it landed out of the park, not just rows up.  I dislike their descriptive talk.

Phils (radio) guys called it as a no-doubter off the bat.  Then went back to bitching about deep counts, but this time complaining about the Astros sitting on a pitch...and getting it.

More than their ability to talk endlessly about everything but the game, what really drives me crazy is their decision to preach morality. Now it's that Lee is a different player since 'that incident after the All-Star game' and maybe some players sat him down and talked to him.

Fuck you. Stick your goddamn morality up your ass and call the game.

Lee did start to noticeably pick up his game but it was in June, and it was after a meeting with Mills. Fuck you, DoRay. Do your job and stop reaching to teach us life lessons.

The whole "incident" comment rather set me off also.  Almost like we know something but we can't share it with you.

I have to admit I didn't know who was at-bat when Lee hit the homerun.  I know I had just sat down to my desk again, but it took quite a while to find out Lee hit the ball.

The whole "incident" comment rather set me off also.  Almost like we know something but we can't share it with you.

I have to admit I didn't know who was at-bat when Lee hit the homerun.  I know I had just sat down to my desk again, but it took quite a while to find out Lee hit the ball.

I'm listening to the Phils broadcast.  That tell anyone anything?

Fundamentals.  Lead-off hitter (Sanchez), puts one in front of Ibanez, who tries for the diving catch and misses it.  Runner now on 2B instead of 1B, which even more important as this is the bottom of the lineup (harder to push the runner the extra base).

Ashby as color analyst: fair to middling.

Ashby as PBP: terrible.

Yes. No argument. He gave some good insight, but was no the best. I really remember him more for not distracting from the game too much, just adding a little to it.

Wow, between the time you could hear the crack of the bat and when DoRay said Bourn slid under the tag, I could not envision someone running from second to home (through third)

Bourn scores from 2nd on an infield hit to 3rd.  Wow!

Throw to 1st was high, Howard (again) slow to relay home.

Good job too, as Pence kills it in two pitches.

Apparently, if that's it for Rodriguez, that's 7 starts in a row with 2 or less earnies.

Correct.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Nope. I wrote the word "broom" before the game. I felt good about Wandy.

Yes.  You can't pitch yourself into a save situation.

The other day, Carlos Mormol was pitching the ninth with a four run lead.  He promptly gave up three runs and then shut down the Nationals.  So he earned his 23rd save.  "What?" sez I.  I then went and looked and figured out why.  Best I could figure is this:

Mormol actually came into the 8th inning to put out a fire.  Bases loaded, two outs, the tying run at the plate, the go ahead run on-deck.  I guess that go-ahead run is what did it.   But why not a hold instead?  I guess because he came in with the tying run on-deck and it is considered a save if he stays in to continue pitching instead of giving the ball up to another pitcher.  Had he done so, it's a hold, not a save.  Because he never left, it's a save.

Interesting.

I occasionally get a good vibe. But then I snap out of it.

Okay, I can understand that, but you called for the broom... *early*.... for the Houston Astros?  THE Houston Astros?   Against the Phillies?  THE Phillies?  You know, the NL representative in last year's World Series... those Phillies.  And by golly, you were so giddy that a team made up of Carlos LardAss Lee, Michael OneSeasonWonder Bourn, Tommy Can'tHitALickHeHasNoBusinessOnAMajorLeagueTeam Manzella.... those guys are the very guys who would sweep a four game series... again... against the Phillies!!!

It's like Gary Coleman's fucking forearm. It's so black, so impossibly black.

Finally got around to seeing this movie over the weekend. Much funnier than I thought it'd be.

Finally got around to seeing this movie over the weekend. Much funnier than I thought it'd be.

Finally got to see it Weds night (Netflix is really pissing me off right now).  I'd heard it was funny, which is a recommendation that generally comes before the fall, but it was.  Predictable, in some ways (who didn't think that Lou was the father), but some classic scenes and lines.  The casting of Cusak and George McFly in an 80's time travel moving was genius.  Amongst other things, there was a throw away "Better Off Dead" reference.

ManAss-to-boobs ratio was a little off though.
