US looking very much second best in every department today, including colour commentary.  Need to get to half time no worse than 1 down, and see if the Coach can fix it.

One thing you can be certain of, this Ghana team will test everyone's conditioning.

Why isn't Ghana better?

They beat everyone to every ball every time it looks like.

They are prone to a lack of structural discipline - because they're very open in their play - that can be exploited by experienced teams (like Germany).  USA needs to hold discipline itself, and wait for the inevitable openings.

What you don't want is for these guys to get a 2-goal cushion and then start having fun.

I disagree.   That is CLEARLY USA's game plan.

Is "Altadore" Spanish for "Headless Chicken"?

Don't know, but "Donovan" apparently means "please don't hurt me".

I cannot understand why this team starts so slowly EVERY SINGLE GAME.

Ok, I owe Donovan an apology. I was watching the Astros; what was the foul that yielded the penalty?

Dempsey 'megged the defender and was brought down by the poor sod trying to cover.  No doubter.

Through the legs is called a "nutmeg".  If you're feeling uncharitable, you shout "Meg," as you put the ball through and run by.

The uncharitable bit...maybe.  But nutmeg is the English term for it.  The French probably call it Maginoed which, ironically, is what the Germans and Belgians call it too.  Probably.

Dunno about JP, but my experience with Tommy Smyth is that he's clearly and demonstrably watching a different game to me.

You know what the problem is?  They call this the FIRST overtime period.   Why can't the USA get off the bus for the first 15 minutes of a match?

Exactly what I was thinking.

I wonder if Findley noticed how going high works a lot better than going low.

Someone from the US has to gamble on one of these balls into the box.  Don't wait to see if the defender heads it - gamble on him missing it.

You can kiss Americans learning to love this sport back on ice for four more years.

At least the USA lost; FIFA didn't steal it from them.

Tottenham, Manchester City, and Sporting Lisbon are playing in a tournament July 22nd, 23rd, and 25th at the NY RedBull Arena with the RedBull.  Any interest in going?  Tottenham and Man City finished 4th and 5th in the Premier League last season.  Tottenham qualified for the Champions League (all the top teams from the European domestic leagues play in it).
