"Willie Tevares" FAIL at Dell Diamond
« on: April 19, 2010, 01:15:35 pm »
So I'm at the Round Rock Express game yesterday, watching Berkman mash, and behind center field they have a nice new mesh fence covering with pictures and names of key Express players of the past.  Each player gets about a 10 foot wide by 6 foot tall rectangle.

The last one?   Well, "Willie Tevares".   What, Joolien Taveras didn't want any of that?

I missed that.  And I guess I missed you, too.  I was in the Homerun Porch for a different view of the game.

Also ... Was it just me, or was the attendance horrible at that game?  Game 3 of the season AND Berkman and I doubt we topped 7,000.

the attendance on Saturday night was spotty too, but there was also an hour and 45 minute rain delay so i imagine some folks didn't stick around.

The pic of Chan Ho Park in a RR uniform outside the stadium leaves something to be desired.

He always had a problem preventing runs.

My wife noticed that too.  We have small children, so usually we like the Sunday games most of all.  Surprised not to see more young kids.   This was my 4 month old son's first professional baseball game.  He wore a little Berkman jersey.  We took a ball from a display in his room, and lucky enough, Puma signed it for him after he came out of the game.  Good times.

A couple cosmetic changes to the stadium this year.  You have that player mesh fence cover, new concessions now (all stations except credit cards I believe, all stations have computer monitor menus), and the scoreboard layout is different, moving the Pitcher information and innings scoreboard around.

Good to be back out there.  I don't know how excited I will be to support the Rangers AAA team next year though.  I'll go to the Express-Redhawks games next year and root against Round Rock.

Oh yeah, and if you thought the "Fowl Poles" at MMP were gaudy, then wait 'til you get a load of the Toothbrushes that they have on the foul poles at the Dell Diamond.  They look completely ridiculous.

You are way to understated.  COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS still fails to capture the silliness.

So get this, I go back to the stadium tonight, and my 4-year old girl heads to the playground.  I check out the blue fence covering behind center field.  Somebody gave Reid Ryan a heads up about this.  They had taken a scissors and cut out the "Willie Tevares" section of the fence, and put up a new picture of him.

But instead of putting his name correctly as Willy Taveras, they made a brand new sign with his name misspelled again, "Willie Taveras".

EPIC FAIL.

At least they are half way there.
