If you're at Whataburger at 4 in the morning, use the drive through.

I remember strange stuff like this going on at the Whataburger on S Shepherd near 59 from my high school/early college days.  My favorite part was a drunk guy who was sick of waiting for his order stealing the PA mic and yelling "Richard, your order is ready! Richard!".  The ladies behind the counter weren't even fazed-they just yelled "Richard, you better sit your ass back down."  I'm sure this kind of stuff happens all the time.

My favorite part is when the drunken fatass challenges the guy to step outside and  "git some" and the guy says, "I have some."

Perfect response, perfect timing. I want to buy that guy a beer.

Oh yeah, late nights in Whataburger are always amusing.  I like how the fat guy was more concerned with pulling his shorts back up after he had been taken down.

fuck yeah!  the guy in the brown shirt has obviously taken some beginner jiu-jitsu classes, what with the single-leg takedown and the kimura he puts on him on him at 2:45

Whataburger has nothing on the Taco C at Riverside and 35.  In a week's span I saw two fights and one guy puke on the table.  There was a security guard present during all of these instances.  He would usually walk over after the fight had broken itself up and ask everyone to "calm it down just a bit."

Great part of town.  Years ago, I used to play golf at the old Riverside Golf Course and on one Friday afternoon saw two foursomes get into a helluva fight around the 150 yard marker on #18  and afterwards, one twosome screwing in the car parked next to mine.

Lamest fight I have seen since those two cyclists tangoed a few rounds a couple of years ago... in fact is it real?

I wondered that too, although it seems real.  With the proliferation of youtubes and tmz etc, I wouldn't think it would be unusual for enterprising actors to create stunts like this.  I wouldn't blame them, either, because real or fake, it was an entertaining clip!

once the whataburger on guadalupe in west campus had a gunman complete with eager SWAT team waiting outside. something about the tower seems to inspire that kind of behavior. or maybe it was the general lack of nutrition of any kind in the food. see defense, twinkie.

This was late 80's, early 90's. slacker-era west campus. There was a wataburger on Guadalupe--north of MLK south of 24th. I think it was across the street from the Harry Ransom center. Anyway it was dingy, narrow, and had a second floor--very unwhataburgery. Last time I walked down Guadalupe it and most of the other places I remembered were gone--Quacks, LazyMe, Texas Tavern. Fucking starbucks.

I remember occasionally going to that Whataburger.  It was opened much later than the rest of the drag, so it basically doubled as a homeless shelter.

It's not the Starbucks, it's the landowners needing so much to cover the property tax burden that only the major chains can afford the rent down there.

Well, if the rumors are true, the Taco Bell that just closed around 28th street is going to be reopened as a Whataburger.

I think I went there twice in the six years I lived in austin. their prices were a little high for me at the time. I rarely still had that kind of cash that far down guadalupe after leaving the plasma donation center. man, it usually evaporated by the time I got to the Centennial near Trudy's.
However, in that specific Whataburger, the one I apparently did not hallucinate--or at least not alone (thanks subnuclear), I did once have the pleasure of running into a young woman who lived at a vegetarian co-op sneaking a burger in the upstairs dining area/shelter. Her guilt/embarrasment/shame was palpable. She started to stammer about how she hadn't eaten meat for three years. I interrupted, "don't have to explain yourself to me, it's not your fault that God made them so tasty." Lunch and astros on the radio. good times.

I was really, really hoping that Austinites would dispute there ever having been a Whataburger at that location.

you are not, nor have ever been a character in my fantasies JimR--I lean more towards Scarett Johansson (sorry Limey, but its you she's singing Fannin street for, not me), And in the tradition of Foghorn's great sacrifice--I would happily titty-fuck Ms. Johanseen if it would help the Astros in any way, or barring that, won't hurt them too much.
But I will happily leave you out of my posts. you've had an impressive career ever since you clerked for judge roy bean, western district. I Just hope you'll go a little less out of your way to tell me to fuck myself. no wait, I forgot the sign on the way in---I'll check that hope shit in at the door.
