One other question... (Rockets/Texans Boards)
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:49:20 am »
Are there equivalent boards regarding the Rockets and Texans? I have followed clutchfans and texanstalk, but there apparently aren't enough Jim R's around to keep down the troll population around those parts. Anything more the the vain of TZ/OWA/SNS?

I have a question. Why your love for Eric Anthony?

He was one of the reasons I became an Astros fan. One year, he hit more home runs than all but one other team in his league in the minors. I was sooo excited about adding his bat to the major league team that already included Glenn Davis. I was a kid then & didn't know that prospects didn't always pan out. When I think of Eric Anthony, I think of the baseball through the lens of a 10-year-old. It's more fun that way.

I think Eric Anthony was from the mean streets of San Diego.

That's pretty funny. I was about 7 and remember his first hit for a homerun (though I recalled it off the foul pole, which is not accurate) and was simlarly excited. It was the first season I can remember following. In my baseball card collecting efforts I managed to get about four of his rookie cards.

Yep.   Did spend some time at Sharpstown High though.  I recall him being part of some event that they held at the Klein Oak baseball field where he was apparently hitting balls over the train tracks, making him a superhero to those that saw it.  Pretty sure I have several of his rookie cards too

i was not a kid then--was i ever one?--but i felt the same way you did about Anthony and pairing him with Davis. his lack of MLB production was a major disappointment for me.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.
