Why are umpires in the Hall of Fame?
If broadcasters and writers can be "in" the Hall of Fame, umpires should be, too. Umpires are actually on the field and having an influence on the outcome of the game.
By the way, I was at Doug Harvey's last game and if I remember correctly, that game ended in about an hour and a half. He told the pitchers before the game that he wanted to get it over with and they'd better work quickly. Any close pitch was called a strike that day and batters went up swinging. It was actually fun to see.
