Dear Mr. Tracy:

Far be it from me to question a major league manager, but...

WHAT IN THE HELL convinced you that bringing Jose Contreras in relief was a good idea??
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Wow.  Your leadoff hitter who is 3-3 on the day comes up with no outs and the bases loaded . . . and can't even get the bat on the ball.  Ooph.

Manuel has now used Hamels, Blanton, Happ, and Myers in the same game.  Gotta love postseason managing.

And in other playoff news, Mark Loretta with a walk-off RBI single to complete a 2-run, 2-out 9th against the Co-ards!

ETA: all this occurred after Holliday dropped a sinking line drive for an error with 2 outs B9.  "Holliday charged in on James Loney's liner to left field, but the ball hit his midsection and dropped to the grass." ESPN LINK

Per MLB on Twitter: Just talked to Matt Holliday. He said he lost ball in the lights at the end. Faced the music straight up in clubhouse. Dodgers 2-0

I thought he took his eyes off of it a little bit.  He only had one error in his time with the Co-ards this year which surprises me.  Anyway, fuck the jakes.

I don't understand why Holliday was playing so deep vs. Loney:  http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091008&content_id=7404894&vkey=news_stl&fext=.jsp&c_id=stl

It looks like he was playing a couple steps off the warning track.  All of Loney's HRs this season were right of CF, so it's not like he's a big opposite-field power threat.  What am I missing?

Playing "no doubles" with a one run lead and nobody on.

I guess, just seemed like he was running forever for a ball that seemed to land right at normal depth.

Positioned correctly for the play ... much better than playing shallow and shaded to center, then watching a rope down the line go for a double.  It was the lights (or maybe by a stretch, the execution) not the positioning that was the problem.  The correct positioning does not guarantee the desired outcome.

So I was in this extremely long meeting today at work, and during a break the random woman across the conference table asks casually, "Anybody following the MLB playoffs?"  I say, sure, hey did you see the Cardinals piss their pants last night?  She laughed and said, "Man I HATE the Cardinals, I hope they get swept."  Not bad for bullshit meeting small-talk, eh?
Well, turns out, "I'm a Cubs fan, WE should be in there right now."

Meetings suck.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

What do bears on birth control and the World Series have in common?

No Cubs.

I don't know ... the Cubs have been practising abstinence for way longer than it has become an issue of debate.
