Astros pick up their portion of Moehler's option

The Astros informed Brian Moehler today that they plan to pick up their portion of the mutual option they hold on the righthander for 2010.

“We informed Moehler today that we want to pick up his option,” Ed Wade said. “He has the right to decline. We’re optimistic that Brian is going to be back with us next year.”

If Moehler is not our no. 5, we won't do shit. He's just not good enough to be a 4.

I was figuring on Norris to be the #4, and agree about Moehler as #5 or bust.

So we've got Oswalt, Rodriguez, Paulino, Norris, and Moehler. Rotation's fixed; what's next?

SS, 3B, 2B, and some bionic rehab for the bullpen?

Towles had a hot last half-a-week, right?

And now its unofficially official...  Astros.com LINK

Moehler said Tuesday that he plans to return next season after being informed by general manager Ed Wade earlier in the day that the club planned on picking up its half of the mutual option for 2010.

Good for Brian.

He was rarely good, but he was consistent and when he took the mound the team knew what it needed to do to be in a position to win the game.

A good move I think. Sparks said something the other day about Moehler that made sense to me. He said a veteran is better equipped to handle the inconsistent nature of the 5th spot in the rotation when you may get skipped because of an off-day and even be in the bullpen some. I immediately thought of Paulino as someone that was not able to make those adjustments at this point in his career.

Towles had his mini-imitation of a major leaguer right after Clark said he was going to play for a few days and that he (Clark) had confidence in him because he knew what he could do from watching him in CC. Clark said he knew the guy could hit and then he went out and did it for a couple of days. Coincidence? I dunno but if I'm Towles and praying Clark gets the job.

Another 74 wins.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Another 74 wins.

At this point, you'd need a couple of career years for 74 wins.
