I don't what feels better, the Texans sacking up and coming back for a win or Romo stepping on his dick and those lowlife shitstains from Dallas losing.  It's a good football day.

I will say that I'm very impressed with Jerry's giant TV screen.  Though I know objectively that it will one day happen, I cannot fathom the technological advance that will make that screen seem quaint.  If I were Jerry I wouldn't move it either.

Fuck the Cowboys.

When I first saw it, I thought "no fucking way."  It's certainly impresive.

Eli Manning hates me.  Not only does he go and beat the Cowboys, but he also manages to throw for well over 300 yards without completing one fucking pass to his starting te Kevin Boss who happens to be on my fantasy football team.
Crazy Joe McCluskey was fucking nuts.  It's why they called him Crazy Joe.

I'm pretty sure I could have a decent NFL career throwing to Andre Johnson.

The Cowboys defense has yet to record a sack or force a turnover. Romo played with his usual reckless abandon, and it cost them, but when all the D can say is that they held them to under 450 yards, I'm not going to lay it all on Romo. Plus, Romo did guide them back into the lead on their last offensive possession.

I guess all that I'm saying is that the defense concerns me more than Romo right now.

The Cowboys would've beaten the shit out of the Giants if Romo hasn't been a one man turnover machine.

I understand that, and I'm not going to defend it as a good game. But shorter field or not, the defense wasn't getting enoug pressure or forcing turnovers of their own, especially in the second half. It's something that needs to improve.

The Giants offensive unit and Manning are pretty good.  They've had some success.

He was probably just stunned that his OC had ordered a play putting his 4th receiver on one of the best CBs in the league.

What?  That's not a good idea?  Let's try it twice.

While it was probably not the best idea in the world to throw at Champ, the second pass was there, Hurd failed to catch it.  88 would have made that play.  Criticism of Romo is deserved in many cases, and he missed some throws in the game as well, but his final pass of the game was not off target.

I thought there was a bit of passing interference on that play, but I don't blame losing a game on one play.

Poor playcalling and stupid penalties were a much bigger factor.  And, Barber did not seem happy with his position on the sideline in the second half.  I play that guy in the crunch until his leg FALLS OFF.

BTW, the GINTS started the season off 2-2 (including an 0-2 start) in '07...things ended up OK for them.  And, since our Boys have not fared too well in the second half of recent seasons, I am going to make myself believe this is the year that they will be a second half team.  I have to.  No other options.  My sanity is at stake.

I really want the defense to hold the opposing offense that very last time they have to do so.  They seem to give up the score at the worst possible time.

IMHO the Cowboys talent is about .500. They are not in the class with the Giants/Eagles.

The Cowboys lost to the Giants on a last second field goal.  I don't think they are too far behind if Romo can average say... less than 2 TOs a game!  Easier said than done?

From where I was sitting, Champ deflected the second pass.  And, I didn't say the pass was off.  Just questioning going at Denver's best D back twice with the game on the line.

Uh oh, Romo steps up for FG holder duties...

...and it makes no difference, the kicker still sucks.  I am so fucking sick of watching this shit.  THE most inept playcalling, ever.  1st quarter, you have put pressure on Rivers and have him 3rd and 13 on his own 12.  What next?  Drop 8 in coverage, give him all day to throw to a wide open Vincent Jackson to move the chains.  About 7 plays later the Chargers take the lead 7-3.  THEN, on 4th and goal from the one, you run Barber on the dive from the fullback position.  Every time they use that formation in short yardage they have run that exact same play.  I guess they figure other teams might not have noticed that.  Also, they are running the football very well and use that fact to run how many play action passes?  Fucking 0.  I don't think they have a play action pass in the playbook (other than the fake off that delay draw).  Every single coach needs to be canned and every player needs to be told they are playing for their future jobs.  Stupid penalties, 0 accountability (so it seems).

The Cowboys need a new General  Manager. A full-time one would be good.

An injection of speed on both sides of the ball would be a good thing, also.

Bull-fucking-shit. I'm not apologizing. Tony Romo stepped all over his dick repeatedly last season and early this season. I'm glad it looks like he's figuring it out, but one playoff win against a reeling Eagles team does not a Superbowl make.

Do it a few more times with everything on the line, and then I'll apologize.

Romo has hads 2 bad games this year. 2. Every QB in the league has had that many slipups or more. NO was a big game, as was the last two against what was a very hot Philly team. Saying Romo is a scrub until he wins a Super Bowl is crap...he has outplayed some very good QB's in some very big games this year.

And, Philly was only "reeling" after playing Dallas lat week (they came into that game on a 6 game winning streak). And, last time I checked you go home if you lose in the playoffs, so everything was on the line last night.

unfortunately, i think the vikings are a really bad matchup for the cowboys in the same way that the cowboys were for the eagles.  the vikings' d-line is so good that they can stop the run and get to the quarterback without overcommitting, so they aren't likely to bite on all the play-action and misdirection that confounded the eagles blitzers.  and on offense, the mixture of a strong running game, quick west-coast passing, and a good third-down back (taylor) will blunt the effect of ware and the boys going all-out to the quarterback all game.  while romo probably gets too much credit when they win and too much blame when they lose, this game really will be on his shoulders because throwing the ball all over the place seems to be the way to beat them, as well as getting good pass protection.

Once they had a pretty good QB named Danny White who was also scrub. The Cowboys are held to a different standard.  Thought everyone knew that.

With Westbrook old and injured, Philly is pretty much one-dimensional on offense and defense.  On offense it's big plays down the field, and on defense it's constant blitzes and interceptions by their aggressive corners.  Dallas is an ideal matchup for that, because their aggressive linebackers don't have to worry about the run and will largely blow up the time it takes to develop a big play.  And the Cowboys' speedy running backs and misdirection offense is the perfect foil to an overaggressive defense.  Dallas is obviously playing very well, but the eagles are a team they beat 10 times out of 10.

#1 Danny White was great.  I don't care what he is doing now, but he was a great Cowboy QB.

#2  Tony Romo has been playing good football.  And let's be honest as long as he doesn't revert back to a 'oh, shit what did I just do' type of game, he will be fine.

#3  The Cowboys were fortunate that their defense was able to keep the offense on the field.  Jenkins in the secondary is playing some pretty amazing football right now.  Shutting down some good receivers has been great.  Plus, Ware and his upcoming partner Spencer make it hard to do anything on offense.  Ratliff seemed quiet last night in the middle, but who knows next week who the star will be.  (And no stupid laterals please.)

#4  Minnesota is a good team.  But don't just assume that they will automatically win.  There will be a lot of talent on both sides of the field next week.

#5  To beat the blitz, you have to read, block it, and execute it.  Dallas did.

This is correct. I thought that his arm strength kept him from being great.

That never stopped Joe Montana and that's not why Danny White wasn't great. Accuracy, touch, decision making and execution are what make a QB a great QB. Arm strength can make a QB better but without the other assets it is academic fluff.

In my opinion, Montana had a stronger arm than White. Montana clearly was better than White with regard to accuracy, decision-making and execution.

What you are describing is a defense that isn't a bad matchup for the Cowboys.. that's just a good defense.  They can stop the run and pressure the QB. That's a bad matchup for any offense in the NFL. I don't think the Vikings match up any better on D against the Cowboys than they would against any other team.

We'll have to see how the Cowboys defense will fare against the Vikings offense.  Stopping the run will be vital obviously - I think the front 7 for Dallas has been playing phenomenal ball.

And as far as Romo, this is the best I've ever seen him play.

He puts the ball in play for the defense, and he holds the ball way too long. His OL must hate him because his delays make them look bad when he gets sacked.

The Cowboys got whipped pretty soundly as a team. I don't think that loss is on Romo. He surely didn't do too much to help, but when you lose 34-3, that's a team loss.

And Favre celebrating that last touchdown pass with under 2 min already up by 24 points like a schoolgirl was pretty classless IMO.

I'm going to disagree with all this "classless" talk.

Not just because I hate the fucking Cowboys.

If you're beating a lower opponent in the regular season and you keep running up the score, yeah, that's kind of shitty.

When you're in the fucking playoffs, if you don't want to have the score run up on you.......play some motherfucking defense.   We're talking about 2 of the 3 best teams in the NFC this season.   It's not like the Vikes were trying to embarrass the Rams.

ETA:  For the record, I said the exact same thing about the Horns and Tide.   I didn't lose a second of sleep or feel any ill will about the last TD.   Other than it just being stupid football because a fumble would have given us a chance we wouldn't have had if they just kneeled.

I think the argument of "if you don't want the score run up on you, then stop them" is fine.. not really disagreeing with it.  It is the playoffs.  Realistically, I think throwing the ball with under 2 min when you are up 4 scores is kind of bush, but that's just my .02, I know others feel differently about it.

What I really have a problem with is Favre running around the field with his hands up like a giddy schoolgirl after that throw, like he just broke a tie game.  Give me a break, guy. Act like you've been there - jeebus, you are like 800 yrs old, you have been there.

I wasn't saying it was.   I was really just throwing that out there.

Also, he finally, after 800 years, beat the Cowboys for the first time in the playoffs.   Again, you want to think Favre is classless, that's all cool and shit.   I can certainly get that.   But c'mon man.  The guy just throttled the #3 team in the NFC, an old personal rival of sorts who owned him in the post season, and is going back to the NFC champ game as an 800 year old.

I'd have said the same thing if it was against my team.

I honestly never understood this at the professional level, especially the playoffs.   These aren't high school kids.   If they don't like getting their ass kicked, PLAY SOME DEFENSE.   We're not talking about the jocks vs the fat kids.

If you're a professional and losing 17-10 feels "less bad" than losing 34-10 on a last second meaningless TD, grow up.   You would have lost anyway.   That's the ONLY thing you should be concerned with.

Hey, like I said, to each their own, I can certainly appreciate that everyone is going to have a different opinion about this one.  I really don't feel the way I do about the subject because I'm a Cowboys fan, I'd feel the same if it were any two teams.  The Cowboys had no timeouts left, it was over.

But you said it, its all internet message board opinion.  And I will have you know, I classed it up over you and your underwear posting, I'm in a wife beater.

If you're browsing the internet and you have wet pee stains on your boxer briefs, you are doing it wrong.

Tony Romo is not a playoff QB, in my opinion.

Total fucking bullshit.  He's been the QB in several playoff games.

Oh, you mean a winning playoff QB?  Well, in that case, for the most part you're right.

That's what I meant. He just tenses up or something else happens in the playoffs. I think that the Cowboys really need to evaluate whether Romo is capable of taking them to the next level. I don't think that he can.

Did Roy Williams play today? Miles Austin was the only WR I saw on the field for Dallas. All day.

you did not see him after the first quarter.

He failed to execute blocks on at least two plays that I recall. I guess that got him to the bench as much as anything, barring an injury. He wasn't, was he?

Apparently, the Cowboy's coaching staff didn't want to win very bad...

Quote
"I didn't get a ball today, and I didn't get a look at today. It just happens," Williams said. "It's frustrating. It pisses me off, especially when we lose and especially when I feel like I have a mismatch. I got a 5-10 corner [covering me, Dontonio Wingfield], but hey, you know, I will continue to work hard in the offseason and it will come back around."

But Roy's not worried, he's got his priorities all straight.

Quote
"Now, next year," he said in late December, "if this is the same thing going on, then I'll be like, 'Oh [expletive], I've got to get my [expletive] together.' But right now, no. It's play ball. I'm good."

He was a physical freak out there.  Easily better than anyone else on the field.  Not always a good thing for a player's development.

Aaaaaand we've come full circle. Way to fold like a card table after a few sacks, Tony.

He held up Ok for the first couple of series (the fumble was moot as they were out of FG range anyway, a punt was imminent and the TO resulted in no points).  There is not a QB on the planet that could have had a good game against that pressure.  He had no time to throw downfield, and the Vikings did a great job on the underneath stuff.  The playcalling was a bit suspect...they ran nothing on a regular basis to slow down the rush (never saw the double screen that has been so effective or a simple slip screen).  Just overmatched from the beginning.  Romo miscues led to 6 Vikings points, and by the time he threw the pick the game was all but over...they were not coming back in the 4th quarter down two posessions against that defense.  He plays a great game and they still lose, IMO...as a great game would merely be one where he does not turn the ball over.  My biggest disappointment was the O-line play...worst game all year.  Oh well, I will still wear my favorite Dallas hat with pride and be optimistic for whomever they decide to start at QB.

Side note, I will start to become very critical if Brees handles the same pressure next week (although I do not believe he will either, as if he could not be effective against Dallas, he will not fare well agains the Vikings).

Romo completely gave up trying to throw the ball on blitzes in the 2nd half. If the Vikings so much as stepped an extra man to the line of scrimmage, he was tucking and running as soon as the play started. He held on to the ball WAY too long repeatedly.

The initial may be true, but he never set his back foot with enough time to throw.  They were already on him.  Granted, the rush gave him some happy feet, but I think that was justified.  The coaching staff did not run any quick hitters to try and take advantage of the pressure...they continually put him in 7 step drops, which played right in to the pressure of the Vikings.  He in no way played a good game, but he was not put in a situation to play a good one, either.  My contention is he did not have time to hold on to the ball too long.

Romo shot four strokes better than his playing partner, John Daly, in the pro-am yesterday!  I can't imagine that's happened before

the more impressive fact is that Daly shot 69 (although that is only 1 under on Monterrey CC), and it happens more than you think.  There are some pretty damn good players in the pro-ams (and the Ams get to play the forward tees)

You ever have one?  I've been close (a few inches) several times and holed out my second shot on a par 4 once, but the hole in one remains elusive

8...and I would trade 7 of 'em for a double eagle.  My dad has holed out for eagle on every hole at Walden on Lake Conroe that is not a par 3 - yet never made a 1.  Wierd game.

Wow! I'm pretty sure if I ever get one I'm printing up a t-shirt so everyone knows.  After 8?! You're making Kim Jong Il envious

I'm always torn between aiming for the flag or the center of the green.  Want luck into breaking 80, or luck into a hole in one?

If you are a casual golfer, always aim at the flag on a par three...life is too short not to.  And, luck has nothing to do with breaking 80 (on a regular basis, at least) and a whole hell of a lot to do with making a 1.

I heard on the radio once a sound plan to shoot 39 over 9 holes (and thus 78 over 18):
Make 3 regulation pars, make 3 up-and-down pars, make 3 bogeys.  Voila!  39.  It's much less daunting when put in those terms.

I used to be a regular in the low 80's with the occasional 7x.  Can't remember exactly how it was done, but I can tell you that it involved making a shit-load of pars, a few bogeys and very few birdies.  Never had a hole-in-one; never had an eagle.  Just call me David Simms.
