Need some advice...
« on: September 18, 2009, 07:33:51 am »
I have a friend who somehow managed to get ants in their vehicle.  They seem to be concentrated in the center console but are pretty much everywhere.   I thought I recalled a discussion on this board about dealing with such a predicament but after searching the boards cannot find that thread.  If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to respond or PM me as this is literally pushing my friend over the edge of sanity (which in and of itself is humorous but she's the type to take some folks down along with herself!).

The colony can't sustain itself in the car without food and moisture. Find the source of contact (tires most likely) where the ants will have a trail of entry to the car and spray a petroleum based pesticide on and around it. The ants will be gone in a couple of days. I'd spray all the tires.

You can find out anything you need to know on this site.  I'm going to spray some petroleum based pesticide around my tires this evening for just the pure meanness of it.

Here is the thread you were trying to find I think.  RATS!  A classic thread.

Here is the summary post:

Thanks for all the input.  Looks like here are my options so far:

1.  Poison pellets in a container under the hood
2.  Serenade Stuart Little with British reggae
3.  More poison
4.  Sammy Sosa baseball card in a rat trap
5.  Acme's female rat robot loaded with TNT
6.  Blast him with my handgun
7.  Slam his head on the sidewalk
8.  Shit in a bag
9.  Drive the car into the Fire Swamp and wait for the popping sound
10. Invite him out for a night on the town with Limey

All great suggestions!  I'll let you know how it goes.
Always ready to go to a game.

I have used a an ant spray inside a vehicle before, but you have to find one that has very little aroma. Spray, seal the vehicle, and then vacuum the car and air it out for a few hours. I had no ill effects, except for the extra ear I grew on my left elbow.

A mild sprinkling of boric acid is probably the safest, most eco-friendly solution. It can be sprinkled in and around the vehicle. Vacuuming it up is easy, too. It just might take a couple of days.
It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of 'em was one kinda sombitch or another.

Terro ant bait.  A small bottle of syrupy clear liquid.  Just a couple of drops near that console and they will be completely gone in 1-2 days.  At first there will be ALOT of activity, it will look like they multiplied, but this will kill them off completely.

I bought mine in the garden section at walmart.

Leave a trail of bread crumbs from the car to an open jar of honey, then once the ants gather around the honey jar, pour gas on them and light them on fire. The ones that don't die will be freaked out and go away.

Put little signs around the car offering the ants a chance to make literally thousands working from home -- you did it and so can they!   They'd be fools to not take an offer like that.

How come no one has yet suggested loaning, or better yet, renting the car to a couple of anteaters for a day or two? That way, you get rid of the ants for good (the leftover anteater scent/feces will keep away any potential new ant colonies) plus make a few bucks in the process.

Make a CD of "Antmusic", "Kings Of The Wild Frontier", "Goody Two Shoes" and the like, turn on the car's stereo system, and insert the CD and set it up to play continually.  At top volume, lots of treble, etc.

Any self-respecting ant will immediately grab up his shit and walk -- no, run -- away.

Well, I was going to suggest finding an ant-eating rat and putting that in the car. Once he solves the ant problem, you can solve the remaining rat problem with any of the ingenious suggestions summarized above.
