USC-OSU & ND-UM will grab the headline superlatives in terms of "game of the day" significance, but the Cougar Cowboy game wasn't far behind those, if at all.
The fact that Okie Lite was so sloppy with the ball--credit UH with a lot of that--probably keeps it ranked behind those other two games in the minds of the talking/typing head scribes. I mean, the consistent theme in the recaps has been, "Okie State couldn't handle its newfound prosperity", making it sound like they "knew" this was coming--SI cover jinx lives!--and were already seeking out a soft landing spot for jumping off the Oklahoma A$M bandwagon. Houston made that convenient for them.
Given T-Boone's expectations(and ROI goals), it looks like Gundy may be right back on the hotseat that folks up there were saying he was nearing two seasons ago. If so, who do you suppose will move to the top of the Pickens short list?
The current Cougar coach? (Strong ties to the Big12 and to the state)
The previous Cougar coach? (YOU try making Baylor football relevant overnight in the post SWC world)
Butch Davis? (You're always in 2nd place with football at Chapel Hill)
Probably none of those, but my friends up in Oklahoma say the state is on the verge of meltdown, utterly shocked at how the fortunes of the state's two juggernauts have achieved worst case scenario just two weeks in. One side is wondering who they need to get them where they (and T-Boone) want to be, while the other side is just worried how they're going to get there sans Bradford (seen the infamour "We're sO fUcked" t-shirts, yet?). As followers of other programs, my friends are reveling in the misery of their neighbors.
Back to UofH: Kevin must parlay the win yesterday and all the attnetion into a win over Tech and then secure a league title, hopefully going undefeated in the process. Crazier things, but if Houston can handle its own newfound prosperity, I'd say those are all fairly attainable.
Man, who outside the Cougar faithful would have thought they might enter the "crash the BCS" conversation? Cougs have rebuilt the program very nicely over the last six or seven years; it was looking pretty bleak there for a spell. Not anymore.
