Minors Best Tools
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:00:50 pm »
Baseball America is releasing its best tools list... I have a subscription so I will post as they come out:

Triple A:
PCL:
Best Pitching Prospect: Bud Norris
Best Breaking Pitch: Bud Norris
Best Defensive Outfielder: Yordany Ramirez
Best Outfield Arm: Yordany Ramirez

Texas League:
Best Defensive 3B: Jhon Florentino

am I wrong to want Yordany up as a 4th outfielder type for next year?  Good defensively, pinch runner type???

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I'd rather see him in AAA another year hoping he will take his hitting to the next level. If so, he could be a starter. Seems he's made progress this year but has a ways to go. I know he can be a good hitter based on his April. The league apparantly adjusted to him?

or he returned to what he is. i do not think he is a .360 hitter.

there is no point in another year of AAA, imo. either bring him up or let him go somewhere that will play him.

I would think Wade is at that point with him.

It's too bad there isn't room on a 25 man roster for someone with his defensive talent and some speed. With 12 man pitching staffs it makes it very difficult though. I don't think any manager would be comfortable having him pinch-hitting 75xs a season.

he looked pathetic at the plate for Smith last night, but he put on a show in CF.

Curious.  Based upon what you know, who would be your September call-ups from RR?

I wouldn't call up any pitcher with a future in Houston.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

not sure i would call up anyone unless they plan to play kids in September. i have no inside scoop.

Manzella, Johnson, Maysonett (hitting a robust .225 at RR), Ramirez, Towles. maybe Trinidad.

they likely will call up Abercrombie.

I would say that Abercrombie is less likely since the 40 man roster is full.

Of course, that doesn't mean they can't trim it, but those moves usually aren't made until after the season as they prepare for the Rule V.

Astros 40-Man Roster

I suspect that Brocail will find his way to the 60-day DL if they really need to find a spot on the 40-man.
