Some girlfriends and I are going tubing down the Comal this weekend.  Any recommendations?

I would check the river flow before I even went, extremely dry here.

From what I hear the Comal is fine. The Guadalupe is bone-dry.

Had some family members who went tubing on the Comal a few weeks ago.  Packed due to the drought situation that has shut down the Guadalupe.  Fairly long waits for tubes, etc.  That was their experience--not saying it will be yours.

I've probably been 8 or 9 times this year. There's nothing wrong with the Comal as far as flow goes. But you would have to pay me to get me on that river after 11am on a Saturday or Sunday.

Bring bungee cords to wrap around your coolers.  If anybody smokes, tell 'em to put the cigarettes inside a Tupperware container, inside the cooler.  Take pictures, and post them here.

Just FYI...The Comal has some weird cooler size rules now.  You can rent coolers from the tube rental places that are of correct dimensions.  I can't remember the size off the top of my head, but the coolers you bring onto the Comal can't be that big now (16 qt. maybe?).    They actually enforce this too....they issue fines for coolers that are larger than the regulation size

It's fun to float the river and all....but it really is a pain in the ass to park, rent tubes, take the bus to the part of the river to get dropped off where you enter the river all the while having to carry a tube you'll be floating in, another tube for the cooler to float in and a cooler full of ice and beer.

I can only handle doing it once a summer.   But for anyone doing this for the first time, it's a good time....when you get into the water it all feels worth it.

Oh yeah its worth it.  I love the feel of that cold clear water.  We currently stay at the headwaters of the Comal (actually have been for 30+ years).  This is a great place for the kids to swim in the river and miss all of the crazyness of the float trips.  When they get older, we will do the float trips.

20,000?  It's only a Tuesday in your imagination?

In 1998, we were floating next to this very classy couple.  I venture to say he was in the military judging by the haircut and glasses and tattoo.  His chick was standard hot Texas trash.   About halfway down, the guy (the GUY) says to us "hey fellas!"   We look over as he jumps out of his toob and plucks his hoochie's bikini top off.  She SORT of pretends to be upset/embarrassed/something-anything.   He laughs, we clap, she grabs her tops out of his hand and, as she's putting it back on APOLOGIZES to us.

No, it's ok, I said, your tits were not offensive to me.  I doubt Nick will ever be able to see or have sex with his mom again, but I'll get over it.   You owe me a beer, though.    And I'll be damned if she didn't toss me a Busch Light OTC.

And you call it unfun.  Pshaw, charles.   Free OTC beer and Texas trash titties.   All for the low low price of $22 per toob or whatever they charge these days.

I've got pix from the annual Memorial Day forays we used to make to the Guadalupe - from 1979-1983, now - that I wouldn't show to any children, even Charlie Manson's children.

In that case, you don't need a tube... the top layer of crap will carry you quite nicely.

I wouldn't hesitate to tube down the Hudson north of, say, Orange County.

My extended family went to NB and stayed on the Comal for years and years. I grew out of it about 15 years ago, probably closer to 20 to be honest with you. It was once a quiet little river and now it's a fucking carnival sideshow. Fuck that, I wouldn't go near that shitstream if you paid me.

On the other hand, I have fairly recently tubed the Frio and enjoyed that quite a bit. Of course, there's no water in that particular river at the moment.

Maybe it is a chance for 5 girls to hang out in the sun and water enjoying some drinks and talk about boys.  Carnival or not.
