Top 3: Kirodu on the hill

Bourn doubles down the left field line.

Kepp flips the ball to shallow right, but 2B back to make the play.  Bourn still at 2B.

Miggy lines the first pitch to 1B.  Bourn still hanging at 2B.

Carlos lines on to right, Bourn FINALLY able to leave 2B and scores easily.  HOU 1, LAD 0

Blum: (passed ball allows Lee to go to 2B).  2-run homer to right.  HOU 3, LAD 0

Spaz: got an out somehow, I wasn't paying attention.  Still giddy over the Blummer homer...

Middle 3: HOU 3, LAD 0

End 6: HOU 3, LAD 2
« Reply #46 on: July 19, 2009, 05:19:09 pm »
Bottom 6: Ortiz back on the hill.

Manny: strikes out swinging (again) on a breaking ball (again).  1 out.

Blake: grounder to 1B.  2 outs.

Eithier: (fouls the 1-2 pitch off his ankle(?) and trainers come out, stays in to complete the AB).  Singles into right center.  2 outs, runner on 1B.

Coop visits the mound, keeps Ortiz in.

Loney: soft grounder to 2B, throw to 1B for the out.  3 outs.

End 6: HOU 3, LAD 2

Arias wears the horns. Son of a bitch.

Trying to throw home on the slow grounder in front of the mound, Arias drops the ball and everybody is safe. Runners on first and second, one out, tied 3-3. They're trying to keep Arias from melting down now.

And Loretta is up. I fear the worst.

We should be ok as long as he doesn't hit a dribbler to the mound.

A dribbler to second works  nicely.

I was unaware Matsui tweaked his hammy in friday's game, so he may not have been available.   But that doesn't change the fact Berkman was ready if needed.

inexplicable considering the previous innings' decision to walk manny (who'd struck out twice already) with runners on 1st and 2nd.

I was thinking that too.

I take part of the blame.   For 7 innings, I was following the game via the GZ on my computer, and I decided to listen to the game on the radio while following the GZ.   When Loney hit into the DP, I thought it was ok to keep listening, but Kemp then hit his bomb, and Bourn and Keppinger struck out.   I turned off the radio before miggy's at bat, but the damage was done.

That was a spot that called for his PH services.     With that said, if Kaz was deemed unavailable for today's game, they would have had to put Quintero in at catcher, move Pudge to 1b, Coste plays 3b, and Blum slides to 2b.   It's still a move probably worth making even if it forces you into that defensive alignment.   But it does make Coop's decision more defensible, I'll admit.
