Those folks at fangraphs might think about adding tools to their analysis. To them, all phenomenon is described in some quantitative way. So, they witness a phenomenon of an improved Bazardo and think "why?" They then start by looking at groundball rates, strikeout rates, and strike rates to explain the phenomenon. They realize that these tools of analysis are failing to explain the phenomenon, so they abandon the quest and throw out some unsubstantiated shit about false age and "markup" (assume makeup).
I have no problem with stats and such, but a more mature analysis has to cover things revealed by visual observation or knowledge of the player.
In sum, their tools of analysis don't shed any insight on the man's improvement.
