Prospect Hot Sheet
« on: June 26, 2009, 03:00:09 pm »
Baseball America's Prospect Hot Sheet has two Astros pitching prospects this week.

Hot Sheet

Jordan Lyles is listed at 3 and Bud Norris at 7.   Doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know...but there was a time not too long ago where you wouldn't find any Astros farmhands on these weekly lists.
Reading Richard Justice and respect level for Richard Justice are inversely related

Good to see. Both performances were worthy of recognition (and there have been a number of other hot Astros prospects recently).

More on Norris from the Hot Sheet chat:

Juice (Houston): Has Bud Norris' season so far done anything to change his projection as a reliever?

Matthew Eddy: This is an excellent question. Superficially, I'd say yes, he would need to be viewed more favorably now, based on his strong Triple-A performance to date. But we have a feature on Norris in the works, and it will attempt to answer this question, and others.

I look forward to reading it.

Not sure whether I'm completely comfortable with this or not- BA has both Castro (#19) and Lyles in their new Top 50 prospects rankings.

They like Lyles over Seaton but the Astros think Seaton is the better prospect.  BA loves the fastball and the strikeout.  I listened to their futures games podcast and they only talked about pitchers who could throw 98.
Always ready to go to a game.

I know that was the thinking when they both players were drafted last year. Is that still the thinking now? IMO Lyles performance thus far in his short career has moved him ahead of the other pitchers taken in the 2008 draft. Lyles has a great K/BB rate and the plus side is that he makes batters miss, albeit it is low-A ball.
