It looks like there is alot of foul territory behind home plate in the MetroDome.

Michael sure looked safe on that steal attempt. Late to the party.

Awesome Roy.  Walk the guy before Mauer after going 1-2 on him...

Question:

If Mauer is hitting so well, why is he in the 2-hole?  Why not move him to 3 or 4 where he would get more RBI chances.

Just curious.

*Disclaimer--Actually asking serious question to learn more about the way lineups are configured. In no way am I asking to get flamed.  Thank you.

I thought we were going to get the Oswalt Inning (tm) in the first inning and get it out of the way.

I thought he had been hitting in the 3-hole (with Morneau behind him). Maybe they've had to juggle things because of injuries?

Puma being Puma.

Pudge was 0-2, so if Puma was caught Pudge would get a fresh start in the next inning.

JD commenting on getting to 'peel back' the number of days remaining for the Twins in the Metrodome before(?) the 6th inning to '44' remaining (incidentally, the number JD wore when he played with the Twins), JD notes:

I don't know, I'm kind of nervous.  I mean I haven't warmed up, I haven't practiced this.  What if I mess up and pull it back to 19 or something. "Of course it wouldn't be the first time I've been booed in this ballpark"...  "I'm presuming a rousing round of indifference [from the fans]".

American League.  In the National League, Mauer would have RBI opportunities only if the #8, #9 and leadoff hitters were good to great OBP guys.  That's not going to happen.  In the American League, it makes sense given that you have a DH to go ahead and use some of your better OBP at the bottom of the lineup.  Go ahead and stack the lineup from 1 through 6, have 7, 8 and 9 be your OBP guys.  You score more runs.

That is the American League for you.  (BTW - this is why I think Cooper switched the lineup and dropped Pence down, he wants some more run scoring opportunities to present themselves rather than just append a hitter into the National League enabled lineup.  And also another reason that interleague games suck!)

The higher camera angle really shows off his stuff. It's giving me fits judging the strike zone though.

Just wait and see if damage was done the next inning.  You're going to help others if there is some serious damage.  If not, then the BBGs hate interleague play as much as the rest of the civilized world and you're safe.

Mauer's spot in the lineup may be American Leagueish, but this game is a classic National League affair.  I like it.

Los Twinkies play defense.  Go figure.  Plus the guys that should be doing better with OBP at the bottom are too much of free swingers.  Gardenhire is complaining about them, especially Gomez.

I'm about 12 hours from hauling this dog to Galveston because my wife told my 3-year old daughter that we could.  Girls in general are known for their rational responses when denied something they want.  Those of the 3-year old variety even more so.

Twins brought in a lefty reliever, so Coop brought in a right handed batter (who proceeded to K).

Because then the batter wouldn't get 2 RBIs.  Duh...

JD was saying it was because it was lost in the two big banks of lights which make those plays difficult on LFs and RFs.  Total BS.  Hopefully the 'Stros will lobby to get that one changed.

It still should should be an error, whether he lost it in the lights or the grease from his stringing hair dripped down into his eyes.  That's a play that should be made, and it wasn't.  It's an error.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
