Nice catch Spaz.  NOT.  dBacks up 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st (on what otherwise would have been an inning ending play...).

Between that 3-2 pitch to Drew and that botch by Boner, Hampy has to be a little frustrated to be down 0-2 right now.

Luckily Haren throws slop.  Shouldn't be a problem scoring a couple of dozen on him... [/sarc]

Has to be NHL's nightmare.  In addition to it being such a sleeper that the fans are silently sitting in their chairs, Crosby left with an injuy, although it does look like he'll play in the 3rd.  Those previous 2 sentences are pretty much the extent of my hockey knowledge.

The NHL is happy to be on NBC on prime time on a Friday.

I agree with that completely.  Penguins were dead in the water until he came alive in the series against the Caps.  But he's not Canadian, so he'll never get the respect from the media / hockey establishment that he deserves.

Scoreboard showing Coop put Backe in the 6-hole (batting 3rd next inning) and Kata batting 9th.  JD and Brownie are stumped...

So long, Brandon.

Yep, sucks though as I really wanted to see the kid succeed...

Every run in this game has been scored with 2 outs.  UGH!

I was hopeful too, but he's got even less than Hampton.

The sad fact about the lineup false issue is that both Brownie and JD knew that Cooper was capable of it.

Is Backe gone tomorrow? When is Valverde scheduled to return?

Tomorrow.  Coop said Wright was 'most likely' going to go down, but certainly hedged his bet when he said it...

It was hard in a sense. But he's had the chance to do what most only dream of. He's just not getting it done anymore.

With a 14.14 ERA, Backe is stating his case to be DFA'd tomorrow. Or maybe even released outright.

I want to know why why Q was starting tonight instead of Pudge.  Pudge has made it known that he'd REALLY like to break the catching record in Arlington, and to do it he'll now have to start 5 straight.  Don't think you want to screw around with a vet and potential hall of famer like that...

Is this the first time the Astros have played in the only NL scheduled game during inter-league play? i don't recall it happening before.

I'll reserve judgment in this case until the game ends without Pudge having come in. He just has to appear behind the plate to move closer to the record, right?

I seem to recall them playing the Brewers (last year?) while everybody else was playing interleague.

Actually I think you are right.

And Pudge is in now and needs 4 more games...

I was referring to the DBacks. Sometimes you've got to take one for the team, but it was especially tough to see that it had to be Backe, knowing that he's staring the end of his career in the face while all of us were watching.

He's been a real gamer but he's clearly got nothing left at all. Maybe he can come back as a knuckleballer.
