Hoffpauir rf,
Fontenot 3b,

Dempster p

Good Guys
Bourn cf,
Tejada ss,
Pence rf,
Lee lf,
Berkman 1b,
Blum 3b,
Rodriguez c,

Notes: Russ Ortiz gets the start today. How long can he go? "They seem to only let me go about 70 pitches," said Russ this morning. (FSHouston Twitter).  FS Houston pregame also noted that Kepp is getting the start at 2B because of how he hits against Dumpster.

Bailed. Volunteered to hang around the house and deal with contractors (plus am sick of stupid FTC fans...).

It annoys me to see them walk around downtown before the game.  I actually got caught by a co-worker giving one the bird from the skybridge between my office and parking garage last night as I was leaving work.

Its like going to Safeco and watching the Mariners play the Red Sox. Can hardly do it anymore.

Bottom 1: Dumpster on the mound

Bourn: cs on low inside corner, 0-1.  foul, 0-2.  ball high 1-2.  Liner into left, kicks off the grass and into the corner.  Bourn takes a wide turn around 2B but decides to hold there.  None out, runner on 2B.

Miggy: called strike, 0-1. ball, 1-1.  hard grounder up the middle, 2B makes a great diving play, but the throw not in time to get a diving Tejada at 1B.  None out, runners at the corners.

Spaz: Ball, 1-0.  Cs outside corner, 1-1.  ball down and in, 2-1.  Can't hold up on the slider away, 2-2.  Ball away, 3-2.  Swings and misses at ball four up and in.  1 out, runners at the corners.

Lee: ball away, 1-0.  Ball low and away, 2-0.  CS, 2-1.  Sac fly to right, Bourn scores and Miggy remains at 1B.  FTC 0, HOU 1

Puma: Ball in, 1-0.  Ball low, 2-0.  Foul tip, 2-1.  Foul on attempted check swing, 2-2.  Ball high, 3-2.  Struck out swinging.  3 away.

End 1: FTC 0, HOU 1

Top 2: Ortiz pitching

DLee: Walks on 3-1 pitch (last one looked like a strike).  None out, runner on 1B.

JD saying they should bring back golf carts to bring relievers from the pen.  'Hey, you could even put advertising on it."  Shut the heck up JD, don't need to fill Pam's head with any more stupid ideas...

Hoffpauir: Broken bat fly to center on the 2-2 pitch. 1 out, runner on 1B.

Fontenot: looping popup to shallow left center, Bourn dives but not close.  DLee goes to 3B on the carom off of Bourns head.  1 out, runners at the corners.

Hill: grounder to the left side, Tejada ranges right, quick release to Kepp who guns it to Puma for the 6-4-3 DP (awesome DP there).  3 outs.

Middle 2: FTC 0, HOU 1

Bottom 2: Dempster back on the hill.

Blum:  struckout on an ugly 1-2 pitch down and in.  1 out, none on.

Brownie notes Zeke Astacio is playing Independent ball somewhere in Texas right now.

Pudge: wrists the 2-2 pitch to 2B, throw to 1B for the out.  2 outs, none on.

Kepp: Broken bat liner to 3B.  3 outs.

End 2: FTC 0, HOU 1

Soriano: grounds into the 6-4-3 DP.  3 outs.

Lucas said in the pregame that he'd talked to Russ and that Russ thought they'd allow him about 70 pitches as he was pitching on short rest (and presumably that Ortiz had been coming out of the pen as of late).

« Reply #43 on: June 11, 2009, 02:51:05 pm »
Top 6: Ortiz back for another (Byrdak and Arias warming in the pen)

Ortiz notes Will Clark (baseball) and John Elway (football) were his favorite players.

Dumpster: 2-1, swinging strike, 2-2.  fouled away, 2-2.  ball, 3-2.  Ball, walk.  None out, runner on 1B.

Soriano: called strike, 0-1. Fouled away, 0-2.  Ball away, 1-2.  Broken bat roller eludes Tejada as he tries to glove it towards 2B, Dempster to 3B (a DP ball Miggy should have gotten to).  None out, runners at the corners.

Coop to the mound but leaves Ortiz in.

Theriot: ball, 1-0.  Ball, 2-0.  Bull up, 3-0.  Called strike, 3-1.  Called strike, 3-2.  Throw over.  STRUCK OUT SWINGING on a high fastball.  1 out, runners at the corners.

Coop back to the mound, Byrdak coming in

Just curious, why do you replace Ortiz immediately after a strikeout to bring in your situational lefty (who's not very good against lefties) to face a righty?

Sorry my MLB gameday was messed up.  Please continue.

Bottom 7: Arias back on the hill

Hoffpauir: 1-2, ball low - check swing, 2-2. Ball, 3-2.  Fly to DEEP center, Bourn sprints back, starts back pedaling up the hill, falls on his rear and MAKES THE CATCH ON HIS BACK.  AWESOME!  1 out, none on.

Hill: swinging strike, 0-1. swinging strike at a 92 mph sinking fastball low and away, 0-2.  Struck out swinging on another nice sinking fastball.  2 outs, runner at 1B.

Blanco: ball away, 1-0.  Bouncer right side, Berkman can't get it, Kepp backing it up makes the quick throw to Arias to just make the play.  3 outs.

Heilman throwing in the pen

Michaels: called strike on the inside corner, 0-1.  called strike down the pipe, 0-2.  Looked at strike 3 on the outside corner, started walking out of the bo before it was called.

not for me; not in a 1-0 game.

I could see if he just batted in the 8th.  But if he would definitely bat in the 9th...the odds that a ball is caught by Micheals over Lee that makes a difference in the game versus the opposition scoring at least 1 and gaining the chance of Carlos helping with the bat in his at bat.  Plus you save a pinch hitter.

Not saying I don't like the defense upgrade.  At say San Diego Micheals is a huge improvement.  Minutemaid and left field.  I was just thinking that the chances a ball is hit that Lee can't get to there and micheals could is almost nil.

If Milo says "weak ground ball to short..." then you can just imagine rolling over a slider outside.  First. Pitch. Swinging.  That was not cool from a guy many thought had turned the corner.  I just hope Cooper isn't filing his head with the "here's you chance, be aggressive, if you like it, take a hack, I don't want you being passive" type of advice.  I'd rather Sean Berry get back to him and let him know that hitting #3 is no different than hitting #5, only means he has more responsibility to pick his pitches and know his zone.

What would be the silver lining?  Ortiz?  Defense?  Yeah, maybe.  But then again, it's the Astros home field, so they should be competitive in their own crib, a team is usually built to take advantage of home cooking.

Blum: looks at a strike, 0-1.  ball in the dirt, 1-1.  Ball low and away, 2-1.  Fouled away, 2-2.  (Backe warming up for the Good Guys).  Liner into right for a single, Berkman had to wait because 2B leaped for it and had a chance, so only makes it to 2B.  1 out, runners at 1B and 2B.

Bottom 11, 1 out, runners at 1B and 2B: FTC 1, HOU 1

Bottom 13: Ascanio still on the hill.

Miggy: takes a ball, 1-0. Grounder up the middle, between Ascanios legs bounces off the hill, Scales ranges and makes the jump throw to beat a SLIDING Miggy.

Bottom 13, 1 out, none on: FTC 1, HOU 1
