Yes!

Wandy, Roy, Hampton, Paulino & Bazardo would be interesting. Another option would be Moehler instead of Hampton, but I doubt Hampton could/would move to the pen.

Continuing to throw Moehler every fifth day is clinging blindly to the thought that this team can somehow compete this year.

Hold on to Pence and Wandy (unless a GREAT deal comes along) and know you're not going to be able to move Lee or Oswalt and that there's a desire for Berkman to retire as an Astro.

No one else couldn't be moved. I'd like to hold on to Keppinger, but whatever.

I'm just ready for youth, for a team playing with energy. Someone said that 1991 was a long season recently. Even with 65-97, 1991 was one of my FAVORITE seasons, because you could see the talent, and got to watch them grow and put things together.

The odds of putting a team on the field like that with Bagwell, Biggio, Caminiti, Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley, Darryl Kile, Curt Schilling, Tony Eusebio in his 10th season, are slim. But the team has to try.

Could you assemble a major league quality team with what's in the Astros Organization right now? 20-28 says you can't. But with a couple of moves and some luck...well I'd like to watch them try.

The only positive I can take from this poor start is the belief, perhaps an erroneous one, that the team will be forced to blow this thing up and start over. It's a move long overdue, in my opinion.

But it seemed that way last year, and is anything really so different this year that they wouldn't approach things the exact same way? Maybe the recession will factor into things, but who knows. Despite the whispers of Tejada, Valverde, Oswalt, etc. I have a hard time believing the team will really sell off anybody.

If they don't blow it up, this team will continue to be slightly better than medeorka (I know). I would hope/am hoping for much better than that in a few years. (Kinda like the Florida teams.)

Hey, you don't have to convince me. You have to convince the Astros front office, and I just don't see what would compel them to make a different decision than they did last year, or the year before (memory gets a bit fuzzy there as far as who they could have/did trade off, but anyway...).

I honestly have no idea whether the team will trade any of its veteran players. If the team continues to struggle going into the All Star Break, I would hope the powers that be will bring up younger guys like Bazardo and James, while trading the older guys who are going to bring back something valuable in return. If the Astros do turn this season around with the current roster, I hope that success won't delay the inevitable and the team would address the aging roster in the offseason.

Does it really matter?

I don't know if he's a tradeable commodity, honestly. By himself you won't get much. Tied to another player in trade he might help fetch some prospect if there's any team that wants him.

I think it's not realistic to expect Oswalt, Lee or Berkman to get moved. All 3 have to agree to a trade. 2 are "career Astros". It would be difficult to deal Berkman and Lee based on contract/position.

I agree. I just hope that the front office changes course semi-soon, instead of turning into a permanent version of the Baltimore Orioles.

Reading Justice the other day and some of the revelations therein about McLane, then the very idea that Ed Wade is working hard to change the mindset of the boss is very previlent and a good thing. Wonders never cease, but this one was unexpected.

Except that Geary and Valverde are coming back soon, and they're going to have to figure out what to do about that. I wouldn't be surprised if they held on to Ortiz and let him have Paulino's starts if that's necessary.

I don't know. They seem quite attached to Backe for some reason. I could see them sending Fulchino back down when Geary comes back. If Paulino goes on the DL and Fulchino goes back to RR, that gives them the slots they need and allows them to delay a decision until Paulino gets healthy. Ortiz or Backe takes Paulino's starts, and the other takes the long relief role. If Paulino doesn't go on the DL, it seems like somebody has to go.
