JD just used the light pen to show how Reed Johnson needs to crop his beard so he can look more like The Most Interesting Man in the World.  JD and Brownie are fucking treasures.  Don't go a day without thanking your Gods for them.

Cubs' 1st:

Soriano- Flies the 4th pitch out to CF. 1 out.

Theriot- B, B, S (I like this home ump, screeeaming out the Strike call), B, B for the walk. 1 out.

Brownie: Theriot has stolen 6 of 8 this season.

Fukudome- Swinging S, B, B inside at the knees, S, B, bouncer into RF for a single. Fukudome on 1B, Theriot made it to 3B. 1 out.

Brownie and JD think the Cubs' Johnson (of the 1st-inning triple last night) needs to tighten up his beard at the bottom so he'll look like the guy from the "Most Interesting Man in the World" beer commercials.

Ramirez- Swinging S, B and iRod GUNS down Theriot at 3rd!!!! 2 out, and is Theriot bitching at the 3B ump!! WFW!
Back to Ramirez- (1-1 count) B, Foul (off-balance popup behind the home plate net), B, Foul, B for the walk. Ramirez on 1B, Fukudome on 2B.

Hoffpauir- Foul, B, lines to RF; Gunter's throw to the dish is up the line and a bit late, so Fukudome scores. Runners on 1B and 2B. Cubs lead 1-0.

Bradley- Foul, Foul, Swinging S. Out #3.

Brownie: Astros have been outscored 23-10 in the first innings this season.

MIDDLE 1: Cubs 1, Astros 0

Kaz- B, B, B, B for the walk. Runner on 1B.

Miggy- Lilly tosses mildly to 1B; B, and Soto out to the mound to ask his batterymate why he's thrown 5 consecutive high balls; B (high again); HOMER to the top of the Crawfords! 173 at-bats since his last long ball on 9/10/08. Astros 2, Cubs 1.

Berkman- S, S on a wicked curve, ground to 3B and toss to 1B. Out #1.

Brownie: Last night, Lance passed up Mickey Mantle for all-time slugging pct. for switch hitters.

Lee- B, Foul, lined to the LF corner for a single. Runner on 1B.

Pence- B, Lilly tosses to 1B, Pence!!! lines to RF for a nice single. Runners on 1B and 2B.

Cubbies' pitching coach, and Soto, out to chat with Lilly.

Michaels (whom Brownie just called "J-Mike")- S, Fouled back into the net, bounced to Lilly, who throws to 2B, then on to 1B for the double play. 3 outs.

Fontenot- B, S, dribbler that Kaz fielded on the run and then threw behind Lance at 1B, who really couldn't get a grip on it, plops on the ground. Runner on 1B.

JD: "That wasn't an easy play, but he'll tell you he should've caught it." Lance charged with the E.

Soto- B, lined single to LF. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs.

Lilly- B, Bunt in the air to Ortiz, who catches it. Out #1. Runners do not advance.

Soriano- grounder to 3B, 5-4-3 double play. 3 outs.

MIDDLE 2: Astros 2, Cubs 1.

Will need to take a break from PBP after the end of the 2nd.

iRod- S, S on another wicked curve, Foul, Foul, Swinging S at a pitch in the dirt. 1 out.

Brownie: Pudge currently leads the NL in games caught.
Brownie: On the Dodge "Life By the Horns," Quintero will tell fans about his favorite baseball player. He'll be off to his rehab assignment tomorrow.

Keppinger- B, B, B, S, S, broken-bat popup to CF, which Fukudome caught on the run. 2 out.

Ortiz- S, Swinging S, B (curveball spins into the dirt and away from Soto), Foul behind into the net (33 pitches for Lilly- 21 strikes), B, Foul, S caught looking. I thought it was kinda low, but I ain't the screamin' ump. 3 out.

END 2: Astros 2, Cubs 1

Ending my PBP for the moment. Will pick it up again later if I can.

According to Capps, Yordany was "styling, flipping the bat in the air, and watching the his homerun.  He may have exchanged words with the catcher.  Home plate ump got between 'em and Yordany reached over the umpire and ripped the face mask off the catcher."

Damn.

Then the New Orleans pitcher hit the next batter Kata and was ejected.

Do-Ray struggling to understand Cooper, its all they can do to avoid directly calling him a fool.

Burned Starter in the 3rd
Burned his switch hitter to bat right in the 4th

Short bench, overworked bullpen, what a disaster this game is turning out to be.

The stated purpose of removing Paulino from the rotation was to provide relief to the pen. It seems like it had the opposite effect as I think those 6 innings every time was working out just fine. This team is in chaos.

Brownie: Brocail does have a torn hamstring. They're gonna work with him on it. Valverde's not due back until the end of the month, but the Astros are gonna put him in a chair and have him throw.

JD: "They're gonna put him... in a... chair?!?"

Brownie: They wanna keep his arm warm.

I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms.

I only manage teams in my head, but I think converting a promising pitcher (who is used to starting) is necessary in extreme need.  I think there were other (better) options that, for some reason, Coop/Wade chose to ignore.  But then again, I probably wouldn't have pulled Ortiz either tonight.

Ok, I need a ruling. Brownie says that the appearance of Soto, the ninth hitter in the inning, constitutes "batting around". To me, you're not "batting around" until somebody comes up for the second time in the same inning. Am I being too strict?

Two triples in the inning and the Fuck the Cubs get nervous. Pitching change.  The Cub outfielder antics are amusing.

Great minds, Mr. Happy.

Platinum is 5 Ks.

My bad. I mixed up the hat trick and the golden sombrero. It's hard to keep track right now.

This is your brain.

This is your brain after watching Astros baseball.

We are all pretty fried right now.

Fans at Minute Maid are getting to be as bad as those at Wrigley about crying homer on every fly ball.

all you have to do is watch the outfielder.  they'll let you know where the ball is going.  unless it's pence.
