Tardy note (as requested by HH)
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:16:01 pm »
Dear SpikesnStars Forumers,

Please excuse 94CougarGrad for being invisible since last August. She moved from Houston to Denton; commuted from Denton to Fort Worth for 6 months for work; quit working for the state gubmint and started teacher certification classes; tried for 6 months to get a 17-year-old in state custody placed in her home before the girl turned 18; finally got to move the girl in 2 months shy of her 18th birthday; got her heart broke when the girl got knocked up 1 month after her 18th birthday and moved out; and then, little league baseball season started. And in between, 94CG has traveled back and forth at least once a month to (slowly but surely) renovate her Houston house or tailgate at the occasional Cougar football game.

94CG will willingly volunteer to do PBP on any Astros games for which she is at home during the game, and which are actually broadcast on her satellite receiver up here in Texas Rangers-land, as punishment for her tardiness.

Signed,
94CougarGrad's Mom

Why the fuck wasn't I invited?

wouldn't you think the reason is obvious?  they didn't want you there?

We probably did. We're with CoogFans, on the far northwest corner of the stadium, closest to Holman and Scott. You?

What's the story behind it? I only heard on the radio that he retired to move to California to be closer to the kids.

They were supposing on the talk radio yesterday that he was forced out.  The timing would suggest that it had something to do with the Robertson Stadium redo he was pushing earlier in the week.

it has nothing to do with the redo.

it has nothing to do with the redo.

Not saying it does, but certain media types believe that he pissed off whoever by poopooing the idea of just completing the endzone piece and combining that project with the bigger refurb of the rest of Robertson.

I've heard he has angered some donors by calling out the "we'll contribute when UH starts winning mentality".

From the outside, I think it's a pretty big loss for the Athletic Department there.  On the other hand, I know nothing, and care even less.

I have heard that it was his support of Penders.  Some of the rich Alumn want to go after Billy Clyde.  I think the renovation (or change of plans after funding) might of been Icing on the cake.  Of Coarse, he might have really just wanted to retire and move back to Cali.

Supporting Penders is pretty damning.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

He has also been butting heads with the President of UH for years.  He was actually brought in under another school President, so he might not have ever been her guy (kind of like coop).  He was/is a very vocal person and might have used the media to try and get what he thought needed to be done instead of going to the Pres. for funding.  Again, this is all speculation.

I somewhat agree with this, but considering his predecessors could UH really do any worse.  Maybe now that Penders has turned the program in the right direction, UH can get new blood.  Personally, I don't think that person is Billy Clyde.

Oh yeah one final thought...Penders still has a three year contract.  UH athletics does not have alot of money, so I am not sure a buyout is in the best interest of the program.

Penders could have had Calipari's record, and supporting him would still be damning.

He was brought in 4 presidents ago, under Smith (Gogue, Rudley and now Khator followed).

I guess I am not sure where you are coming from with this.

To put it directly: Penders is a despicable human being.  A drunken SOB who sold out his assistants and players and showed a flagrant disregard for the law during his time at UT.

The fact that he got another job shows just how desperate UH was to win.

If they want to get rid of a coach, they will find the money somehow.  Just like any program anywhere.

Okay.  I did not know about his past.  You are correct, UH was desperate when they hired him.  Maybe he has changed?  Uncle Dave sure liked him.

As a GW alumna, let me second what a repulsive piece of shit this guy is.  Protecting the player who sodomized a girl in the dorm room was a particularly nice touch.

I don't mean to come off as I love Penders, because I don't.  He has done a decent job of getting the program going in the right direction.  Hopefully, if he is replaced UH can upgrade just like they did with the football coach.
