Speaking of Cigarettes

For those in Houston that are nicotine addicted such as myself, I've located THE place to purchase your goods.

Turns out that the Alabama Coushatta Indian Tribe does more than casinos.  They have a smoke shop up on  FM 1960.  Inconveniently located between Hwy 59 and I-45.  My gig is Copenhagen and the price for a roll ranges from $36-$26 a roll depending on the day of the week you buy (how fresh).  They have the latest product available.  Also a huge selection of cigarettes, cigars, chew, and everything else tobacco.  Based on the lines of people with multiple cartons, the price has to be good for the cigarettes.  Didn't check the receipt, but I do believe they are tax free but I could be wrong on that.  I figure with a savings of at least $20 per roll, the savings pay for the fuel.

It's been common knowledge for 30 years that an Indian reservation is the place to buy tobacco for cheap.  For those that didn't...shame on you.

Ya know, I never realized that Houston had an Indian Reservation.  Shame on me I suppose, but now that I do know.....

They also had petitions in there for people to sign in support of legalized casino gambling in Texas.  Probably more of a way to get all my personal information and email, but what the hell.  Mrs. UTL prefers that I am at least 100 miles from legalized casino style gambling and grumbled such when I signed the petition.  I don't think it ever passes the Texas House and Senate, but Galveston as a casino destination would be interesting.  I would think that the casino companies would have a vested interest in cleaning up the slums of Galveston.

I don't know...I never thought parimutuel gambling would pass, but once the Legislature took a hard look at how much money was going across the border to Louisiana, they changed their tune.  I don't think the naysayers can preach about the Dog Track/Horse Track/Lottery as examples of gambling destroying society with a straight face like they once did.

Casino gambling might not pass, but it has the best chance for passage this session that it has had in a long time.  There's enough of a "surplus" and stimulus money to probably keep them from using it to fund things, but there are more legislators in power now who look more favorably on that sort of enterprise than there have been in decades.

Probably a dumb question, but isn't there an open casino down on Indian land around Eagle Pass?  If so, how come they shut down the Alabama Coushatta Tribe's casino?

The Kickapoo operate a casino in Eagle Pass.  They are allowed to operate because they were a recognized tribe prior to 1987, and operate under a different set of rules.  The Tigua and Alabama-Coushatta weren't recognized until 1987 under a different Congressional Act, which states that they must abide by the gambling rules in whatever state they are, not the federal rules.

Hey, I don't smoke, but somehow I discovered this thing called an e-cigarette.  The name amuses me very much.  I don't think you can receive emails on it yet, although I do see a USB charger there.  It's supposed to be healthier than actual cigarettes.
