Offers were made to Wolf, Looper
« on: February 14, 2009, 11:53:14 am »
Wade confirms that they had some last-minute talks with the two pitchers. If I'm reading this right, as far as Wolf is concerned, the actual numbers weren't too far off from what he got with the Dojers, it was just the incentives and geography that tipped Wolf back to LA.

So, if Wade's still trolling the FA market for pitching (and not Pudge, apparently), who else is out there that would sign for $4-5MM? One of the Hernandez brothers and their proverbial "innings eater" status?

The steM seem to have locked up Livan, and I say pass on El Duque.

I'm pretty sure I read El Duque wants to close. As for what pitchers are left, Pedro is about the only name worth mentioning iirc.

I suspected Looper was on their radar because they thought he could fit that category of a "it's almost spring training and they're still looking for a job" status.  I doubt beyond both Wolf and Looper that anyone else is a real fit.

As is Oil Can Boyd.

No, seriously.

So with the above answers, then I suspect no one is really bothered by the Astros signing Russ Ortiz?  I didn't think so.

I'm more bothered by the thought that Backe has some sort of inside track on the fifth spot.

I know there's a joke somewhere in there about fossils and oil cans, but my brain just isn't working on that level right now.
